Hair Removal

Sorry to talk about our lady junk... but, I am sick of razors.  I'm a baby when it comes to pain.  I'm considering sugaring.  But, then I hair hard wax is also a good choice.

1. how do you remove your hair?
2. do you recommend it?
3. reasons for and/or against waxing or sugaring?

I'd go to the health and beauty board on the nest... but I am mad at the nest because of yesterday.

I shave, but I use the 5 blade Venus razor and it does a decent job. It's not something I can do repeatedly though, I get bad razorburn if I try to shave every day like I would my legs or something.

I've never waxed or anything. I can't even imagine how effing painful it must be, considering I tear up just getting my eyebrows done. I have no idea what sugaring is.

ETA: For some reason I decided this would be my first post here today. Random.
  • I use mach 5 mens razor for everything and it does a good job.  I can't deal with ingrowns ANYMORE.  And I just want someone else to do the work for once.

  • 1. how do you remove your hair?
For everything except my less than becoming mustache, I use a razor. The only thing I wax is my upper lip and my eyebrows occasionally.
    2. do you recommend it?
Not really, but there's not any extra money to pay someone to wax my legs and ladybits. Also, my hair grows so goddamn fast that I don't think I'd get my money's worth. I'd be fuzzy again in half the time it takes most people, probably.
    3. reasons for and/or against waxing or sugaring?
There's just something wrong about a woman shaving her face.

  • I shave. I use the Schick Intuition 4-blade razors... they have the moisturizer built in and wrapped around the blades. I don't need shaving cream, I've never cut myself anywhere, and they work pretty well.

I wax my eyebrows but I'd never wax anything else. Ouch. And I also don't know what sugaring is.
  • I use to wax actually and just started getting laser hair removal insead. Mine was about $150 each month for five months and it's gone forever, it actually doesn't hurt and I never have to deal with shaving or waxing or anything again. Money well spent in my opinion :)

  • I'm pretty sure sugaring is the same concept as waxing, just with a different substance. Anybody remember Nads? That's sugaring. Same basic principle, just a different sticky medium. I think, anyway.

  • I don't use a razor for the lady bits, I do my bikini line with a good razor, but nothing more than that......I think it's the worst feeling ever.  What I do for the rest of it is give it a nice low buzz cut with some electric clippers.  I use it on the lowest setting, but since it isn't completely bald it doesn't get ingrowns - - and it grows back softer than if I were to shave it.

For legs I shave and for eyebrows I use tweezers myself.
  • I shave too.  I can't imagine how bad waxing must be.  My older sister is an esthetician, and when she was in school, some girl was supposed to demonstrate a Brazilian wax on her, but she screwed it up and my sister ended up finishing it herself.  Yikes.

But FWIW, my stepmom is a cosmetologist, and she waxes her ARMPITS.  Everyone she works with thinks she's insane, but if she can handle that, I imagine a bikini wax isn't as bad as that.

  • I got my lady bits waxed once and OHMYGODTHEPAIN.  I don't recommend it one damn bit.  I like to shave with these little Gilette razors that are called 'bikini razors' or something similar.  They're really small, so I don't you know... cut something sensitive.

  • Shave my legs and underarms; use a little trimmer on the lady garden.  I used to get a wax, but 1.  It hurts like hell, 2., it's expensive, and 3. Not once but twice it resulted in an ingrown hair infection.  Plus, I used to go the salon on campus and there was definitely a "Hey, look at Grandma getting a Brazilian!" vibe to the place.  I don't need that shiit.

So a buzz cut it is.  Works for me and the Mr.
  • I fully intend to do laser one day.  But, not in the budget at the moment :)

    I hate hair.

  • I get waxed and I love it.  It is painful, but it gets less painful each time.  If you pop a motrin about an hour before getting it done that will help lessen the pain.  Also, plan the waxing around your cycle.  You are much more sensitive down there right before you period so don't do it then.  It hurts the least if you do it the week after.

I used to shave and I just couldn't do it without cutting myself so I gave up.

  • I'll admit I don't fully understand waxing.  I did it once for a week long trip to the beach so I wouldn't have to worry about it all week, but I don't understand using it as a regular hair removal plan and here's why.  You have to let it grow out to a certain length before you can wax it again.  So timeline:

0-4 weeks:  growing it out...what do you do during this time?
Day of waxing - 3 days post wax:  get waxed and look like a plucked chicken
3 days post-wax - 2 weeks after that:  FINALLY normality.

Then you repeat the process.  It just seems like a lot of non-optimal hair growth to get 2 weeks of non-maintenance.

I don't know if I explained myself well.

  • TR, that is part of the reason I don't wax. The other part is that I am a big sissy who is scared of the pain, but that's beside the point.

  • I shave the Schick Intuition, including the lady bits.  I haven't had any problems.

I wax my eyebrows though, and have since I was 13.  I've tried to tweeze them once, and after repeatedly trying to even them out, I ended up with about 8 hairs in each eyebrow.  So now I don't even go near there with tweezers.

My BF gets brazilians regularly and swears by them.  She has tried talking me into getting one for years but I have no desire for it.  Haha my MOH talked about getting me one for my wedding and I said don't waste your money because I won't get it.

This friend managed to talk 2 of our other friends into going with her for a wax.  The one had such coarse, thick italian hair, that on the first strip of wax it ripped her skin off too, and she was bleeding, so she stopped.  That right there convinced me to never ever allow wax down there.

I whispered too loudly during one of these videos "It looks like a dude with an afro with a gunshot wound."  Nobody in that class liked me :(

I think I just went too far.  I'm sorry.
  • I am a big baby too Emily.  That's why I am waffling so much on what to do.  I think I am going to give sugaring a try.  A lot of people say it doesn't hurt as bad.  If it sucks, well it sucks.  With sugaring you have to go 3 times back to back with a certain time period in between to get the best long term results.

And yes, that is funny considering I used to be a stylist.  Haha.

  • I have a friend who swears by bikini waxes every two weeks. She'll forego a lot of luxuries to do it. She claims it's the best. For me, I wouldn't be able to deal with having to lt hair grow out at least 1/4 inch before waxing. Though I do get my brows and lip waxed from time to time.
