In desperate need of a reception venue

i live in New York, land of everything overpriced and im trying to find a venue for 100 people thats not going to cost me an arm and a leg but all i keep finding are these lavish halls that are charging well over $10,000. Im trying to keep my total wedding cost at $2,500 and we are trying for August 2012. Any advice or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Look into having it at a restaurant too.

  • Have the cermony in a park and the reception in a restaurant.
  • How many people are you inviting to the wedding? Some location that does reception for weddings are Rouge Tomate by Central park and Bubby's in DUMBO. See if their pricing for a pre-fix is within your budget.
  • You can check out the Hudson River Yacht Club in Brooklyn. We are having our engagement party there and the room is beautiful and overlooks the water. They are very reasonable with pricing and work with your budget.
  • Thank you everyone for all your help. i really appreicate it. Keep the ideas coming :)
  • Look into Riccardos by the bridge, their prices are really good and they have some beautiful rooms. I dont know if their prices change for the summer.
  • Definitely plan something midday and/or midweek. If you total budget is $2500 to include ceremony, reception, and dress, you are talking less than $20 a person for food. Have a lunch or breakfast reception.

If you want a quirky spot there is a place called "Le Petit Cafe" in Carroll Gardens that has a really nice indoor garden area. Their regular menu is reasonably priced and they do private events, so you might be able to get something in your price range.
  • Im doing 65 & restaurants still cost just as much as a catering catering hall.. Try NYC Department of Parks Queens Botanical Garden Picture taking is FREE .. Get a park permit $ 100 including beer & wine permit  Then Bronx Chair rental is the cheapest out there for tables and chairs and they do delivery I used them for my sons birthday party .. Then you can do a local restaurant for Catering food I used this place called Mama's for my baby shower we spent $700 for about 100 people we did cheese platers that we got the meat from BJ's .. and for decorations Oriential Trading wedding or Party City and you should be under budget ..
  • since you're on a budget for a large number of people maybe you should consider hiring a wedding planner who normally does budget weddings on a dialy basis. that way they already have established connections and know all the affordable places that still offer good service.we recently hired elite(b)events and she specializes in elegant unique weddings on a budget. so far she is great to work with, has great reviews, very knowledgeable, very professional, and the best part is she specializes in budget weddings! check her out she may be able to help you.
