Ceremony in the same room as reception

Hi!! I was looking to have the wedding at the country club where the reception is. It will be about 110 to 120 guests.
i prefer an inside ceremony because its about 45 min, so that would be rough if it was hot or rainy. I've been reading different posts about ceremony in the same spot as the reception and I'm not sure about having everyone sitting at the tables. I dont mind it but I'm afraid they won't be able to see. I was thinking of pushing the tables to the wall and have chairs set up in rows so everyone can definitely see. Then move them back during cocktail hour. Does anyone have any pictures of this at all? When I google I can't find much. Im having trouble visualizing it! Thanks for your help!

Re: Ceremony in the same room as reception

  • Is there only one big room? Where will the cocktail hour take place?
  • There's a lobby and covered patio they will be able to move around for the cocktail hour. But yeah for a ceremony or reception there is only one big ballroom to use.
  • I would prefer the tables pushed back and chairs in rows for the ceremony. I went to a wedding where they had a similar situation. The chairs were lined up on the dance floor for the ceremony and when we went outside for the cocktail hour, they moved all of the chairs off the dance floor and set them up at the tables (which were off to the side). It worked.
  • I'm having my ceremony in the same room as the reception.   We are going to have the ceremony on a terrace, then the guests are going to the bar for the cocktail hour.   While they're having drinks, apps, and cupcakes,  and we are doing pictures on the grounds of the venue, the staff is going to set up the tables for dinner.

  • I would ask your venue how they usually handle this situation.  You're probably not the first to have both your ceremony and reception in the same space there.

We had our ceremony and reception in the same room and our guests were seated at their tables.  The "aisle" was the dance floor in the middle of the room.  We had assigned tables and our VIPs were at the closest ones.  Our guest count was just over 100 and with a smaller group like that no one had a bad sightline / was terribly far away.

The space was "T" shaped and the base of the T could be blocked off with folding door panels.  The bar and appetizers were set up in that area.  After the ceremony was over - the doors opened and we had instant access to the cocktail hour.  Worked very well.

  • Okay great thanks for the feedback!! The venue would do the changing.. But it doesn't seem like many people have had trouble seeing.. I still have a little time to decide but now I feel much better about it! Thanks again!
