Alternatives to Acrylic Nails?

I love the way fake nails look but hate the way they grow out, break, and hurt to remove.

Has anyone had a positive experience with something other than acrylic?

Re: Alternatives to Acrylic Nails?

  • I have never done fake nails, but I do really love the shellac manicures. They last two weeks, and then the polish needs to be removed a special way. (You can do it yourself if you have the stuff.) I found that my nails grew much more with the shellac on them than with nothing: I think the typing didn't wear away at the nails as much. So, if you wanted length, you could always get one a few weeks before and then redo it right before your wedding.
  • Shellac is great! My nails got stronger using it. I got my nails done 5 days before my wedding and they still looked perfect!

  • Good advice. I will have to check it out. Thanks!! :)

  • I love pink and whites but you'll probably have the same issues with them as you go acrylics except they don't break as easily).

  • i wore acrylic nails for YEARS but switched to the KISS press on (glue on) nails from the drugstores. they are so much better than they used to be. look much more natural that acrylic nails and stay on for about a week and dont hurt to take off. i get complimented all the time on them and suggest them to EVERYONE. they cost about $6 for about 24 nails. go buy some and try them out, i promise people will think you went to a shop. they have custom fit ones that look soooo natural
  • I also love KISS glue on nails. They look more natural than acrylics, and give you added length if you want longer nails that you usually have.
  • GELeration!!!  Check it out!  It doesn't hurt your nails at all! It is just a polish and it lasts for up to 3 weeks!
