Do you have a style/theme?

Hi Knotties! I need some advice/guidance!

I'm 11 months out and have the major stuff nailed down (date, ceremony & reception locations) but I'm stuck on one thing.  I know I want our wedding to be elegant/classy but I'm struggling to pinpoint if we have a style or theme.

Do you ladies have styles/themes? How did you select them? Do you come up with ideas (like escort cards and centerpieces) on your own or draw inspiration from wedding blogs? I look at a few different blogs, but sometimes feel overwhelemed because everything looks great and I obviously can't include all everything!!

Thanks :)

    Hi girl!

I am doing a Mediterranean/Jewel Tone theme (if that is even a theme). I decided on mine because I couldn't make up my mind about what colors and my venue is very mediterranean looking.

I would say if you have your colors picked look to the blogs and google weddings in that color. I have gotten some great pics for flowers and reception decor by doing that. Also, go with a theme that looks good with your venue. I loved the black, white and yellow color combo but thought it was a little more modern that what my venue felt like.

The only thing I came up with on my own was our table numbers. We are actually doing town names for the tables and they are all places that my fiance and I have travel there together. I was going to put our favorite memory on the back. I thought that was a little different than just numbering them.

I am still overwhelmed with all the choices out there and realize I need like five weddings to do each color combo/theme I love :)

Hi Katie! Thanks for the suggestions...especially about making sure it matches the reception location.  I took photos of River House so I'm going to study those some more :)

Your table numbers sound very cool and unique!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves a lot more ideas than I could possibly incorporate in one wedding!!

I agree with Kaite.  :)  The first step is finding the feel of your venue.  You can't do a more modern theme in an antique looking place and visa versa.    Throw some idea's out to us and we'll help!

I'm getting married on the beach, so naturally I'm having a beach them wedding.  My first decision that really made me decide to go with beach them was actually the guest book.  I decided to have a Message in a Bottle instead of a book.  Our guests will write well wishes to us and put them in the bottle provided which will then be sealed at the end of the night and we will Try to wait until our 1 yr anniversary to crack it open and read them.

We're doing Sand Dollars as escort cards, beach theme cookie cutters as favors tied with raffia and little sea shells, a candy buffet with one of the candy items being Atlantic City salt water taffy, rhinestone starfish bouquet picks for my bouquet.  BM wearing rhinestone starfish pendants and I will have a small rhinestone starfish pinned in my hear.

The cake will be decorated with white seashells and coral.

We have a lot of things going on that all sort of tie together.  I started out picking my venue, which screams Southern elegance, then the colors of the dresses.  Just a note, I love cornflower blue from David's Bridal, but it is sooo hard to match to anything.  My fiance and I love nature, so we went with a blue and white theme, like the sky.  We're getting married under an oak tree (southern, as well), so the nature tied in and we found invitations with oak trees and the carved heart/initials (zazzle.com).  So...long story short, our theme is southern elegance, highlighted with blue and white, oak trees, carved initial hearts, and the saying "A love story that will never end," because we are Language Arts teachers.  It isn't a theme, as much as it is a conglomeration of us. : )

OH and my table numbers are pictures that I took at the beach.  I wrote each number seperately in the sand and took a pic of and I will have them printed and laminated.

One thing that helped me narrow down a theme as far as colors went was to start pulling out photos of bouquets or table settings I liked, then go back through them and look to see if I was picking anything over and over. I eliminated any color schemes that were not like the others, and soon got it down to cream, sage, and brown.

Theme/logo-wise, I thought about what feeling I wanted my guests to walk away with. They were all coming down from a historical area up north, and I didn't want it to feel like Florida = Disney/tourists, etc. The cliche, you know. Palm trees are cliche, but when I found a historical drawing of one, that felt right to show that this is a classic, historical area with roots as well. It ended up being a hit and looked great on everything.

    Good luck with your search!

I have had to rethink my colors because of the limitations of certain options like the groom and grooms mens vests & ties. Also what goes with the venue, I also talked to photographers about what photographs well. I haven't decided but photographers websites are a great inspiration.
