Totally Overwhelmed!

Any one here every hit that point when you feel TOTALLY overwhelmed by life as a whole? I wouldn't post this anywhere on here, but I completely trust you guys. I just feel like I'm at the point I just want to curl up at home and not leave the house for a few days because there is just SO MUCH going on that I am done dealing wtih it all....

1) My good friend left her commonlaw husband, and took her 2 year old daughter wtih her. He started putting pressure on her, and she freaked out, and overdosed on her medication. She is fine physically but we're all worried about her and getting her back into a good mental state again.

2) My leg... for those of you following, enough said

3) FI has been complaining a lot about his job again lately, and wants to quit and go somewhere else... atleast this time he is working on the 'somewhere else' before talking about quitting with anyone besides me. ANYWAY... we live on site at his work... and he has NO savings... so in order for him to change jobs, I need to shell out the deposit out of my savings account for the security deposit on a new place. Trying to do this without touching the wedding account (I can't afford to be taking money out of there for ANY reason right now or we won't be able to make payments needed for the wedding).

4) Trying to manage debt is stressing me out big time. To some of you, this one might just sound like whining but let me explain... I have NEVER had debt... no loans, no unpaid ccs, bought everything in cash... I grew up in a family that struggled fiancially and swore that wouldn't be me... fast forward to now, I have no debt and a savings account... FI comes into the picture with cc debt, car payments, a line of credit, no savings, etc... We aren't failing to make payments or anything, but the act of juggling it all and getting it paid off stresses me big time.

5) EVERYONE IS HAVING KIDS! Seriously! Is it something in the water? Their kids don't affect me, no.... but the fact that I've found out that I can't does! The treatments for my cancer mean no having kids of my own... FI and I plan on adopting, but that doesn't make it easier to see EVERYONE with pregnant bellies and little babies...

6) Work is a CONSTANT source of stress right now, and although I know I should just let it go, I'm finding it hard. This place is a horribly negative environment full of drama, backstabbing and highschool carry on. I come home 10 times more stressed every day then when I walk into the building.

I am seriously sitting here right now, watching the clock, just wishing it was already home time. I feel like I want to punch something and cry all at the same time... I have a business meeting to go to tonight (that I DON'T want to go to)... I just have WAY too much on my plate... FI tries, he does, but he's so clueless on how to deal wtih a lot of it (I love him, but based on track record, he's not touching our finances... I have tried that once before, and the month I let him control it meant his acct was $1000 overdraft!).

Just needed to get that all out I think!

Re: Totally Overwhelmed!

  • Sorry to hear that you are so stressed! **hugs** to you. That is a lot on your plate. I also manage all of our finances and it does get overwhelming at times… I have a crazy spreadsheet that I update frequently that tracks all of our debts and lets me know where they sit (I think I have it planned out for the next couple of years – granted this will probably change, but it makes me feel better that I have at least somewhat of a plan!). While I get overwhelmed sometimes, it makes me feel better to know that I can look at that and see that we really aren’t doing that bad. And, when I’m in a really bad mood, I go to Dave Ramsey and read the success stories there because then it makes it easier to deal! It’s crazy how much debt some people had – and they were able to pay it off! I can see why it can be hard that his finances are in different shape than yours. I know this is often the most stressful thing for couples to deal with. With his job, maybe you can negotiate with FI and see if he’d be willing to first save up some money before he jumps into a new position? Maybe it would be extra motivation for him.

So sorry to hear about your friend, hopefully sometime away from him will help her heal. And YES, all of my friends are having kids right now too… WTF? I went on FB yesterday and had two status updates about morning sickness (TMI, but whatever) and one with a new outfit for her baby on the way.

When do you go back to the doctor about your leg? Hope they figure something out soon.

  • Thanks Lora, I think I just needed to get it all off my chest in one place if that makes sense! I also track everything and have our plan all laid out. I'm a huge fan of Dave Ramsay as well :)

I convinced him, I think, to atleast lay off the new job talk until after Christmas... we'll get through Christmas first and then discuss from there...

My next Dr appt is tomorrow night.
  • Oh and P.S., my favorite thing to do when I am overwhelmed is to go for a run! It helps clear my head and gets rid of some of the stress. But it sounds like you definitely could use a destresser. :)

  • This is why I love you girls, I am SO comfortable talking to all of you, whether its AWing the good things, or venting the not so good lol
  • Hugs from me too!!  Take a deep breath and know that everything will be okay.  I can totally understand why you are so stressed.

I know all about the financial stress.  I never really had much debt until I got a divorce and moved in with FI.  We basically started from scratch.  We literally had nothing to start our home with and had to buy everything from furniture to dishes to towels for the bathroom.  We are doing pretty well now, but the cost of the wedding stresses me out.  I just say that you have to take it day by day and plan ahead.

  • I'm sorry to hear you are going through all of this.  It sure does sound like you have way too much on your plate. I know I'd be scared as hell and overwhelemed with just the leg thing. Do find something to relive your stress.  And hang in there! It always gets darkest before the dawn!
  • I'm so sorry to hear how stressed you are.  I'm struggling with the job thing and I find that stressful as it is so I can't imagine having more than that.  Big Hugs your way.  I hope things get better soon.

  • Ahh Britt...hugs to you! I swear December always seems to stress everyone out with money and then when you add everything else on top of it, it makes it worse. I feel sorry for your friend, eventually she will realize she made a good decision and realize she's better off where she was at. It's hard to do at first (I went through it when my dtr was 2) but look at what a jerk her father is, I was so much better off! As for finances, the same exact thing happened to me. I got into a relationship w FI and he is carrying a $16K debt on him from his divorce. It bothers me alot but I can't do anything to help him. Hopefully you guys can get through this. Also, he definately can't quit until he has something else lined up. Idk how jobs are where your at but thu are so hard to come by here. Work stress is terrible! You have no idea the crap that goes on here. I just tell myself to come in, do my job and get out. Pple here act the same way your mentioning.....I always say, I come to work to work and get laid and if you make friends along the way, great! You do tend to work alot and have lots of meetings, try to forget about it when you get home and focus on happy things like your wedding!!

  • Hahahahahahah OMG just got on here after getting home and getting some errands done and saw this, I actually reread the 'go to work and get laid' like 3 times making sure that's what I thought it said before I saw your post correcting it lol
  • Literally the funniest thing that happened today. Hahah – Jenn’s phone, thanks for the laugh. :)

  • Hi,
Britt, I am sorry your friend is having so many troubles.  She needs to remember that even though it is hard things are going to be better without the negative influences in her life.
When my FI and I got today we were both starting completely over after leaving long term relationships.  I had nothing but three kids but did not have debt.  He had more but also had some debt.  We now have a beautiful home, take nice vacations and are ok financially.  It was hard and sometimes very overwhelming but if you keep at it is manageable!
I am sorry to hear you had cancer.  That must have been very hard.  I hope you do get to adopt.  My middle daughter is adopted.  It was a family adoption but she is my child just like the ones I carried.
I have to admit when Jenn posted her correction I went back and reread the original post and didn't see the problem!  I guess I read and process what I think it should say!

  • PS My FI sometimes says he would like to get a new job but that scares the crap out of me.  I don't have extended health through my job.  I am covered through his and I am terrified that if we have to change insurance that I will be denied for pre-existing conditions.

  • Omg. I called FI and told him apparently I'm a prostitute. I almost died when I read that. Haha. Still laughing too!!

  • Thanks everyone for the support! You girls are great!
I was recommended a page by a friend that I want to share with everyone here for finances/budgetting because its amazing (and free).
The site is Mint.com Check it out! Helps you track all your spending, colour code wants vs needs, etc.. oh and you can track multiple accounts in one place :)
  • Awesome! Thanks

  • Its amazing, I LOVE it! You can do SO much with it, and it puts everything all in one spot!
  • There's an app for the iPad, I just have to update it to the new OS!
    ~jenn~ Photobucket Anniversary
  • I saw pictures of it on the ipad on the website. I went on last night and imported everything for my side of the banking (savings acct, chequing acct) as well as our wedding acct. Tonight I am going to connect it with Fi's chequing acct and cc so that its all in one place.
