Veil over face Vs. No Veil over face

I am Very torn as to wearing my veil over my face or not. My mother is all for it and when I was little I always thought I would. But now that I see not very many brides do that anymore its making me feel out of the loop. Like I shouldnt because people will be like why is she wearing her veil over her face? They dont do that anymore!.......I am the only child and of course only daughter and I gave my father a while back the choice to lift my veil or not. and he  seemed happy to do that. I know its only going to be 30 seconds wearing it over my face until my father lifts it. I just need to be guided...haha. Please tell me!

  • I'm not. I personally think it is too old fashioned.

  • My best advice for you would be to try your dress on with a veil that has a blusher (part that goes over your face) and one that doesn't. See which one you feel more beautiful in/comfortable with. Then go with your gut. It shouldn't matter if its "outdated" or "out of style"--I work at a wedding dress shop and many brides still follow the tradition. Do what makes you feel good :)

  • Don't go by what you're seeing people do.  Do what you want.  If you want the veil for the walk down the aisle or for the entire ceremony, do it.

For me, I wore the blusher for the walk down the aisle and then my father lifted it before the officiant gave the welcoming speech.

I agree with PP- try on a bunch of veils to see what you like best. I'm not wearing a blusher, partially because it's not my style, but also because it doesn't fit look as good with my dress because of the details along the neckline.

Plenty of girls still wear blushers, don't worry about people wondering what's going on, because they totally won't.

  • Personally I hate veils so I vote not to wear it over your face.

  • I am... I like the tradition. I'm not a fancy girl so I'm going for the veil. not that half little veil ;) There isn't a lot of traditional things done anymore. My best advice is to try on veils both ways with your dress and see what you think. I like the thought of my hubby lifting my veil to kiss me. :)
  • I'm doing it!  I don't care if the tradition is "outdated"

  • I am also going to do it. i love the tradition.

  • I'm doing it! Same way too, my dad will be lifting the veil when we get to the end of the aisle.

  • Ask your MUA. Mine is against blushers because she says they rub on your face and can cause streaks.  She also says lipstick gets stuck to them.

I myself am not wearing a veil because it's not a custom that appeals to me, but I am doing other "traditional" things. Wearing a veil and having your father lift it is a lovely tradition and it will make your father happy, so I'd say "do it" -- if you feel comfortable with it. Don't worry about being "out of the loop" -- too many old lovely traditions are dying out!

  • I am going to have a blusher because my fiance likes the symbolism of it, but I am going to try to find something a little more fun, like an asymmetrical one or one that is tucked behind your my ear instead of flopped over my head.  Also, my fiance is going to lift the veil, not my dad, even though my dad is walking me down the aisle (but if you have a better relationship with your dad than I do, then letting your dad do that would make him very happy).  Happy shopping!
