No... because I am. ETA: The thread wasn't offensive and the OP had a valid question. To me she presented it in a respectful manner. The ignorance would be to remain clueless and assume. IMHO

Honestly ... and I mean this in love Rodeo, your response was more ignorant than anything I saw in the 5 pages of the thread. I get it upset you but starting a thread called help me not kill them over something so minuscule is rather alarming. Using "saltine" and "cracker" (whether proving a point or not) is kinda contradictory.

I wouln't be offended if someone called me that. I went to predominatly white schools for undergrad and grad school and some people are really clueless. I just answered their question and moved on. I consider myself Black but if they call me AA (which to me is not very politically correct) I don't get all mad about it. Heck, I was clueless about what to call some people. I only learned the differences between chicano, latino, and hispanic just last year. If I didn't ask I wouldn't know.

I wasn't upset about OP asking the question. I can see she really didn't know. I was tickd because the one that posted "people of color" and when i told her in a nice way that it wasn't a very liked term, she wanted to argue. I couldn't think of anyother way to describe it to her... sorry if i offended anyone over here.

No offense taken ... I just wanted you to be aware of the perception of your posts. Most won't say it. I ,however, would rather you be aware so we, as people of color (lol), can be better not bitter. I think it was my great granny that said "what you offended for... its not what they call you...it's what you answer to."

Wow that was a crazy thread. I mean I think this is an issue because I don't like to be called black because my skin isn't the color black I don't mind being AA but I can't really connect w/ African. I don't really think it was anything to get upset over hopefully the OP got the answer to her question.

So I am open to either African American or Black. Personally, I know nothing of my Black ancestry or African history so I am not connected so I call myself Black with a capital B. But I also capitalize White when using it as a race. Lowercase for color, not race.

I believe people view the knot as a space where they are comfortable enough to ask questions they always wonder but cannot ask in person or do not have another resource. So I figure hey, if we could help out one person and they share the correct information with one other person and another then eventually, we'll and they will be better off!

Me too!  LOL!  My overall number one identification, however, is human.
