Video length?

What is considered a normal video lenth?  So far a few quotes we received only included a short highlight reel of about 3 mins.. and that is the only edited version we would get from the entire day.  We would also get the complete raw footage from the wedding.. Is this normal?  These are packages I've looked at starting at around 4500 and seems to be the common thread with companies I've contacted.

Re: Video length?

  • The trend these days seems to be short, cinematic movies. And a lot of money for some of them.  I was interested in having more complete coverage and footage of our day, so our video will be around 90 minutes long. We booked our guy at a great price so I hope the video comes out well. Even if it's not the most creative video as others get, it will still have a lot footage from our day which will be great to look back on through the years.

  • That seems to be a trend, but it wasn't what I wanted either. I added in my contract to include all raw footage (and it was $150 extra) in addition to a longer, edited video. (approximately 100-120 minutes). I am not getting a "highlight reel."

  • Wow- that is a lot for very little!  Our videography package included a highlight reel, edited hour-long video, 2 videographers all day and cost significantly less.  Raw footage could have been added, but we're going to hold off on getting it until we see what the final product looks like.  We used GT Modern Creations and they were one of our favorite vendors of the day.  Highly recommend!

  • We got the 3 minute highlight reel, a 45 minute edited video and all the raw footage (several copies of each). We upgraded to include HD/BluRay too and paid significantly less than $4500. That sounds like a lot!

  • Thank you all so much.   I was so close to signing the contract because their highlight videos are absolutely fantastic, and they work a lot with our photographer which I thought was a plus.

But after really looking at the package details and comparing to what I've seen on the board, I was second guessing it.  I contacted GT Modern yesterday--looking forward to hearing from them!  Btw, everyone is so helpful on this board.. it's making the planning a million times less stressful :) THANKS!!
  • It depends! There are some videographers that will film the entire day and give you a 5 minute edited clip. There are other videographers that will give you the 5 minute clip and then entire footage. My videographer (in albany ny), gave us a 1 minute clip, 8 minute clip and almost all footage broken out by chapter on a dvd. She really went above and beyond what others were offering.
