To please his mother or myself...

I'm sure most of us brides to be have an image of what we want to look like on the big day. I know I do! I had everything planned according to my dress, which has a little black belt since I found the whole white dress deal a little too intense. I got a pair of cute black sandals and had finally found the most pefect long black and purple earrings (flowers will be purple).
Yesterday, my fiances mother gave me a pair of earrings she would like me to wear for the wedding. Yes, it's super sweet, and I really do appreciate it, but they are just so not what I was aiming for... Pearl studs.
So now what do I do. I would like to make her happy and wear her gift, but I kinda feel a little bummed too since it's not the way I would have put my look together.
Any advice?

    Get a second piercing and wear the pearls in the top hole

    Or, when she asks why you're not wearing the pearls say, "I am!" and then let her wonder where you're wearing them ;-)

    Would you be willing to wear the pearl studs for your ceremony and switch to the purple and black ones for the reception?

    or, you can wear the pearls for the ceremony.  then switch to your earrings for the reception.

    I agree - wear them to your shower, your rehearsal, any other special occassion - but I would not change my wedding look to wear them.

    pearls are so NMS, so I can totally understand not wearing them.  Especially if they don't suit the "look" you are going for. 

    I agree with PP's.  can you wear them for the RD and shower?  Or switch it up after the ceremony.

    I like the idea of PP, wearing the pearls for the ceremony (very classic) and the purple/black ones for the reception (very trendy).

    Good idea!! I think I will wear them for the ceremony, make both my fiance and his mother happy, and switch them for the reception.
