40-Plus Brides

Ceremony Readings - LONG!

so yeah - I gotta get the ceremony details nailed down like NOW.  (I mentioned I'm a procrastinator right?)

Anyway - I want to include a reading.  Instead of a poem or verse I want song lyrics.  BUT.  I'm torn between a couple of songs.

1. The Jayhawks "I'm going to make you love me" (also in consideration for our first dance)
The world never ends
It’s only the beginning
And we can't pretend
To discover it’s meaning

We talked for hours at a time
Then I came to my senses
You’re more than a friend
You’re my perfect lover

I'll never be all you want me to
But that's all right

I'm gonna make you love me
I'm gonna dry your tears
And we're gonna stay together
For a million years

It’s the least I can do
Just to make you my baby
No words could describe
Oh, pinch me I'm dreaming

Your hair's long and black
As it lays 'cross my pillow
When I stare in your eyes
I get lost in your glory

I'll never be all you want me to
But that's all right

I'm gonna make you love me
I'm gonna dry your tears
And we're gonna stay together
For a million years

When you were a little girl
Your great big world came tumbling down
So sad

Yeah, the river it bends
But it flows to the ocean
And baby here I am
I'm your sea of devotion

I'll never be all you want me to
But that's all right

I'm gonna make you love me
I'm gonna dry your tears
And we're gonna stay together
For a million years....

OR

2. Roger Clyne and The Peacemakers "Maybe we should fall in Love": (going to use as our recessional)
All our might
can't change it at all
Speed of light is
slowing down to a crawl
And now we find that we'll take flight
only when we fall
Maybe we should fall in Love

The verse and the chorus
The birds and the bees
May smite or ignore us
despite our pleas
What is this terrible thing
brings us towering to our knees?
Maybe we should fall in Love
 No you
No me
Baby only we
Melt like sugar
Into black coffee
Our race is run
Our chase is done
No longer may we flee
Maybe we should fall in Love
So it's official now
There's nothing we can do
Now you're a part of me
and I'm a part of you
And we can see how one and one makes more than two
Maybe we should fall in Love

Re: Ceremony Readings - LONG!

  • I voted for a song lyric. I would consider that too.

But I also recently saved some poetry that I thought might come in handy if I have to do anything in addition to the vows. Bookmarked it....sec...

  • Thanks for the input ladies!

Lucy - I love that Van Morrison song - silly I didn't even think of that!  damn!  (and you need to get yourself educated asap on Van the Man - such a wonderful artist!)

Mem - thanks for the link I will check it out.

Of the songs I was thinking about the first one I just love the group.  They have such amazing vocal harmony that I get lost in them.  I'll save that for the first dance.  The second one, for one of our first dates we went to see the band and during this song we had a "moment".  Laughing  I will keep that as our recessional/celebration song.

Thanks again - I'm off to read poetry...
  • If you need more inspiration, this link is to a giant wedding readings repository. Some are religious, most are not.  http://kvetch.indiebride.com/kvetch/index.php?t=msg&goto=40800#msg_40800
  • Whelp - I spent all afternoon reading poetry and other wonderful essays.

And I think I have some to work with.  Tomorrow I will plan it all out with the music and vows.  Time to make dinner!
  • Option 4 - I suggest the APACHE BLESSING.
Below you'll find the ORIGINAL VERSION
and then the EDITED VERSION that we used:

Apache Blessing - original version Now you will feel no rain,
for each of you will be shelter for the other.
Now you will feel no cold,
for each of you will be warmth to the other.
Now there will be no loneliness,
for each of you will be companion to the other.
    Now you are two persons,
but there is only one life before you.
May beauty surround you both in the
journey ahead and through all the years,
May happiness be your companion and
your days together be good and long upon the earth.
Treat yourselves and each other with respect, and
remind yourselves often of what brought you together.
Give the highest priority to the tenderness,
gentleness and kindness that your connection deserves.
When frustration, difficulties and fear assail your relationship,
as they threaten all relationships at one time or another,
remember to focus on what is right between you,
not only the part which seems wrong.
In this way, you can ride out the storms when
clouds hide the face of the sun in your lives - remembering that
even if you lose sight of it for a moment, the sun is still there.
And if each of you takes responsibility for the quality of your
life together, it will be marked by abundance and delight.

[QUOTE]Kelly, it's not that I'm not a Van Morrison fan...I am!  But I don't know how it is that I'd never heard that particular song before.  I'll bet if I flip through my CDs it's probably right there on one of my VM CDs.  Anyway...kinda seemed like serendipity that someone posted it on my local the same day you're looking into songs.

It's on his Avalon Sunset album.

Also - I sometimes need to read the lyrics before a piece will REALLY grab me.  This is one of those examples.

@Kristen - thanks for sharing - I saw that often on the link I got from Right1, I love the sentiment behind it.
