Are flowers always this expensive?!!

We have a reasonable budget for flowers (or so I thought) $3000 for about 16 centerpieces and 3 BM boquets, my boquet and whatever else may need a floral arragement..... where did you go and is my budget really as low as some Boston florists have told me it is?? Thanks!

I think you can certainly get away with 3000 worth of flowers and have a very nice looking room. But yes, flowers are very expensive. The price is also going to depend on what type of flowers you are asking your florist to use. However, you are going to need to shop around to find the right florist. Plenty of girls on this board can give you great recs.

Depends how big the centerpieces are, but my budget is like $4K and I'm getting tons more stuff than that (8 bridesmaids, 25 tables, church and other decor).  Try somewhere outside of the city. I'm using the Tangled Web, and have also heard good things about Cymbidium Floral.

I was in the SAME boat as you.  I almost freaked after my first 2 appointments with florists! I then reached out to Jen from the tangled web based on a bunch of recommendations I got from girls on this board and her prices were MUCH more reasonable.  I would definitely think you could get all that you are asking for within your budget with Jen.  Good Luck!

I think $3K is a huge budget for flowers!  But then, we are going really cheap.  It totally depends on what kind of flowers you want and how big/complex the arrangements are.  Also, if you are talking to florists IN boston they are probalby more expensive that companies outside the city.

We are using Jody at My Personal Florist out of Reading (for our Cambridge wedding).

    http://www.thebestweddingflowers.com/

She said she can do centerpieces for us, mostly roses (which are inexpensive and come in tons of colors) for around $100 each.  They are simple, but all I want is flowers, don't need them to be complex.  She works out of her home so she is a lot cheaper than florist shops (no overhead).  She did my 2 best friends weddings and their flowers were beautiful!  Note, her website is not that impressive, you definitely have to talk to her in person.

Depends what you're looking for.  My flowers were only about $2500, but I had small centerpieces.  I wanted to keep costs low.  Obviously, our Chuppah costs the bulk of it at $800.  We used Designing Images in Randolph.

    Here's what I got:
    My bouquet $120
    BM's bouquets $50/pp
    9 Bout's $100
    grandmothers/mothers $100
    place card table $100
    6 cocktail tables $60
    chuppah $800
    aisle/runner $250
    17 centerpieces $25 each $425

Used my bouquet and the BM's bouquets to decorate my sweetheart table.

Then there was tax and delivery.  But still only $2500.

Mine are costing around $3,300. I am providing the centerpiece hobnail milkglass vessels. I'm working with Gregory from Flou(e)r. I received a discount because I booked him from the bridal expo in Boston too about $500.00 off.

    http://www.myflouer.com/

He does not have a minimum but seriously yes I was kinda thinking wow this is expensive!! I completely trust him though he is so detailed!!

It includes 13 centerpieces, my bouquet, Jeff's flower, groomsmen, my bridesmaid's (calla lily bouquet). church, grandmother, grandfather, mom, dad, his mom, and step-dad, his dad, fireplace, our sweetheart table, birdcage decoration, petals for flower girls, petals for cake table, front enterance, bar. I think that's it...

I agree that $3,000 is a very reasonable budget.  I spent about $1,500 on flowers, but I only had 7 tables and 2 bouquets.  I also re-used our ceremony decor for cocktail hour and skipped mothers' flowers altogether, which helped.

It just depends on what you want.  Different flowers/arrangements cost different amounts.  We are using Winston Flowers in Boston and our break down is like this:

    Bridal Bouquet $175
    Boutonnieres 5x$15=$75
    Corsages 5x$35=$175
    pew cones with flowers $320
Arrangement for Bar at Reception $125
    Taxes/Delivery/Set up/Break down Fees ~$220

    Total: ~$1100

We were also quoted ~50-75 for a few additional arrangements we decided not to go with.  We originally told them our budget was $2000 and they were awesome with keeping everything under budget.

I would think $3k would be more than enough.
    Bridal Bouquet: $200
    BM bouquets: 3x$100=$300

    Boutonnieres 5x$20=$100
Centerpieces 16x$100=$1600 (and I think you can get beautiful centerpieces for ~$50-65 or maybe even less)
    Misc other flowers: $500
    That's $2700.  Plus tax + delivery/set up (i think usually around 15-20%)
    That'd be around $3400 total.

Yay! Finally able to update my signature :)

petals for the aisle - $50-100
    2 large altar arrangements - $100-175
    20 cocktail tables (3x3 vase w/rocks & single cymbidium orchid) - $10/each
petals for escort table - $10-50
centerpieces - 6 tall 24" pilsners with hydrangea, roses, and orchids - $100-155

that sounds great! Could you tell me who the 3 are?

I think 3K is very reasonable! My budget was 2K and we managed to go under it :) (at least estimated haha)

Also, I don't know how far into the Boston area you are having your reception and such, but I am using a NH florist. My ceremony and reception are in Haverhill and Andover and I live in NH.

Where is your wedding?  My florist is based out of Wayland - she's been great to work with.  My total invoice at this point is under $2,500 - I don't have it on my, but I will likley have 15 centerpieces, 1 MOH bouquet, 3 BM bouquets, various boutineers and corsages and other arrangements for the venue.  You should check her out.  http://flowersbyavantgarden.com/

We paid $2500 for my bouquet, 7 BM bouquets, 15 centerpieces, 10 bouts, 2 corsages, a FG basket of flowers, placecard table flowers, and chuppah flowers.  And we used calla lilies and orchids which aren't the cheapest flowers.  Pics in my bio of all of these if you're interested to see what we got for our money (I think we got a really good deal).

Who told you your budget was low?!  I can't imagine that.  You have at least a grand more to spend than we do and our order is very similar to yours.  I have a few more bouquets and some flowers for the men as well.

Come to think of it, my friend is getting married in June and has the same size wedding/bridal party as I do.  Her total for flowers? $6500.  And that did not even include delivery.  As far as I know, she is not using any flowers that are particularly expensive either.

It all just depends on how much shopping around you do.  Many florists are reasonable, but some are just outrageous.  Especially a lot of the Boston ones.  GL!

You can do it for $3k. I'm having 20-22 tables (high and low centerpieces), my flowers, five maids, mothers, a bunch of guys and a few other things and I'm paying around that. I got quotes from 3,000-5,000. Try Kelly at www.beautifulbloomslive.com or Bella Floral Design. I'm using Kelly. She works from hom and is very reasonably priced and very accomodating. She made me up a centerpiece to see before booking and it was beautiful. Good luck!

If your budget is low, mine was flat out cheap. We spent $1400 on my bouquet, 4 bridesmaid bouquets, 2 mothers corsages, 4 grandmothers corsages, 7 boutonnieres, 4 reader corsages, 2 altar arrangements, 16 wreath centerpieces, a toss bouquet and cake table decor.

Sounds like you are looking in the wrong places. Take these girls' recs and you'll find someone who can do great work with your budget.

I agree that $3000 is plenty for what you need. Look at all the suggested florists and be flexible with flowers - that will help with keeping the cost low. Good luck!

Mrs Huguley:  I'm wicked curious: what are the centerpieces like that are only $15 each?  That's really inexpensive!!

They are Hydrangeas,Carnations, and Roses in a Tall Bud Vase so I don't need a massive amount of stems to make it look full because the way the vase is

Your budget is fine.  I paid $2,000 for:

23 centerpieces (I had banquet tables, so I had several smaller arrangements on each table)
2 bridesmaid bouquets (bought mine online from emplume.com)
    7 boutanniers (sp)
3 small bouquets for 2 mothers and an aunt
    flower girl basket
    1 cake topper
    mantle arrangement for ceremony

My flowers were protea and crysanthemums with fiddleheads as accents, so not too expensive.  I went with Audrey's Flowers out of Gloucester.  (I wanted Tangled Web, but they were booked for my day).

Hey there, we were in the same boat too. We went with Andrea D'Amelio and she is great. She really stuck to our budget (which was actually less than $3K). You might want to check her out.
