My reception venue called to let me know they had double booked our space. And since the other party put down their deposit first, they get the space. It happened during a re-hiring of event coordinators at the restaurant.
Just under 40 days to go and I have no venue....

at least they gave us our deposit back.

Did they at least recommend replacement venues??? Any leads yet?
I agree that the venue should do more than just refund your deposit, they should do what is in their power to help find you a different venue using their contacts, etc.
I hope one of the two other alternatives works out. Fingers crossed for you!
That is so super bogus!! I am so sorry. But since you do have such an intimate guest list, can you find a restaurant or something? And yeah, I would be all over my contract seeing about what more they should be doing for you.
So, SIL called the DJ and said, "Hey, we don't have a venue right now. Just wanted to give you a heads up."
The DJ put in some phone calls and them got another venue -- at a discounted rate because he was friends with the coordinator.
Contact all your vendors you have contracted, explain the situation. They may be able to find you a place in your budget or give you a recommendation.
And to let your guests know about the location change, my brother had the previous venue pay for postcards to tell guests about the venue change since that was an expense he should not have had to pay.
I hope everything works out. This is a total nightmare, I'm sure!
Maybe another venue will "take pity" on your situation and even give you a discount, OR if they are more expensive than your original venue, they'll offer you their venue for your price range!
Good luck and please keep us updated
[QUOTE]Stay calm. This happened to my brother. He paid for the venue, then they said it would be closed due to remodeling THREE WEEKS before his wedding. Catarntina is right. You know what.. let yourself freak out for a minute. Then breathe. The coordinator at my venue said this happens.... he put together a GORGEOUS wedding in less than 2 weeks for a couple who came to him in this situation. Start making phone calls... this could even end up working to your advantage as people might jump in to save the day and make the day extra special.

I was semi-ok yesterday and then I called this new venue and as I was explaining to the girl what happened I broke down crying. Oh it was terrible. But you know what, I see now it was all meant to be. I don't know if she's taken pity on me or what, but we chatted for hours and she's sooooo nice and was understanding and she said that since their prices are a little higher, that she'd give us the bigger private space without the added fee, and they're gifting us a wedding cake! Which is awesome! The first place was going to make our cake, but this new place doesn't make red velvet. So she said find a bakery, have a cake made, and they'll pay for it and not charge a cake cutting fee!
I feel better about everything now. Thanks ladies.
As for the first place, I wrote an angry-gram to their owner, letting them know exactly what I think of their service and non-offer of help after leaving me high and dry. I'll let you know if they write back.
