Prenup

Hey ladies,
I have been considering a prenup for a bit now. Not because I don't think me and my FI will last, as a matter of fact, I adore him and want nothing else but to be with him forever.
The reasoning behind this is that I want to be able to keep my assets intact IF something were ever to happen. I guess its just life sometimes! My dad and mom worked incredibly hard to get to where they are at for me not to protect that.
Has anyone done a prenup? I am prettyu sure my FI won't have a problem at all, I just dont know how approach him about it.

    We aren't doing a prenup. If you'd like FI to sign one I'd pretty much just tell him everything you told us. Honesty is the best policy!

    We signed one. Just be honest. My parents are very protective of what they have built for us and he knew that from the start. I also made sure he was protected since he owns 2 companies. Just be warned that it took us forever! My dh hired an attorney that dragged out the process for 8 months by not responding. We had to sign it 3 days before the wedding which was incredibly stressful so start super early!

    I'm in the process of doing one with my FI and it has been miserable. It kills the romance. If you want to get it done right with good attorneys, it will cost you a pretty penny ($5-15K). Most attorney rates in Miami start at $400 an hour.

    Try to get it done ASAP. It does take FOREVER! Otherwise if it's too close to the wedding the pre-nup could be void under grounds of distress and coercion.

    What a pain in the butt!!

    wowzers! I will start looking into doing it ASAP. I will talk about it with him tonight. Thank you for all the help! Good thing the wedding isnt till next Feb!
