Minnesota-Minneapolis and St. Paul

Themes for August

We were initially set on having an October wedding, which lent itself very easily to different themes and color combinations.  Our original plan was a combination of chocolate brown, deep green, cobalt blue, and pumpkin orange. We figured we'd be able to pull out the orange, green, and brown in autumn tree and leaf based decorations and then throw in pops of blue here and there.

But we realized that the second half of our reception will take place in our backyard and October is just too tempermental in Minnesota. So, we've moved our date up to August 31, 2013.

I think I'm going to keep the color scheme, but change the orange to a brighter mango orange and the green to more of a kelly green.

August is such a strange month here in Minnesota though. It's not quite summer and it's not quite autumn. I really don't know where to go with decor and stationary themes.

Any thoughts?

Re: Themes for August

  • Honestly, you really don't need a theme - the theme is "we're getting married!" Just make sure the look and feel of your wedding is consistant throughout your paper and decor. You don't want to have super formal invites for a backyard BBQ wedding, KWIM?

  • Our date is 8/10/12, and my "theme" is the dahlia.  I don't think you need a theme persay, I would just pick a design element and use that throughout.  Damask is a popular theme that lends itself well to any season.

  • Our date is 8/18/12 and our wedding doesn't have a theme, but our reception is a picnic themed reception with our colors Red/Black/White :)

  • I wouldn't worry about it, honestly. Do the colors you like and run with them, season doesn't matter at all.

  • BTW, on my Pinterest I have a color scheme board http://pinterest.com/sndietz/color-schemes/

If you click on my pins, it will take you to where I got them, and then you can find different schemes that have the colors you like in shades that go together :-)  That is what I did--I knew I liked blue and pink/red but wasn't sure what combinations looked good together--I ended up with raspberry and indigo.

bingo. this is what my husband said over and over. We got married 8/13/11 and we used navy blue with pink and gold. it was a really nice pallet and very fresh and summery.
  • It doesn't matter what time of year it is-- go with colors that you love. We got married mid-July and our main color was brown. Don't let the time of year dictate your color scheme or decor.
