Saying hi and also whining

Hi ladies, this is my first time on this board, but I thought it might be an appropriate place to post?

Are there any other knotties out there living away from their FI?  FI and I have been living apart for the last 7 months and it SUCKS.  He's English and we met when he was here on a visiting scholar visa, but then he had to move back to the UK.  We were dating for 15 months and living together for 12 before he had to go back.  We've been engaged for less than 2 months but I feel like I can't really enjoy it because I miss him too much.

I guess I'm just looking for commiseration, because misery loves company right?  The weekends are the hardest because I can at least occupy myself with work during the week... Anyone else out there missing their FI like crazy?

  • Hi! Welcome to the board!

DH and I had a long distance relationship for 4 years.  It was really hard, and we had to develop a whole new way of communicating.  We were only on opposite sides of the country; I can't imagine what two countries would be like!

Do you guys get to video chat?

  • Hello and Welcome!

H and I had a long distance relationship (I was in Ohio, he was in Georgia) for about 6 months. We were fortunate to see each other several times, but it was very difficult. We went from being together all of the time (we didn't live together) but I was always at his house or he was at mine to being miles apart. I can't imagine being that far apart.

Hang in there! But definitely try the webcam thing.
  • Thanks for the comforting words, it really help :)  We skype on the weekends and I phone him every morning (well, his morning, my evening) but the time difference really makes it hard.  8 hours means we're off by 1/3 of the day, so when I call him at 11pm it's 7am.  At least he's coming back soon, 12 days!!

  • We had a long distance relationship for about a year and a half. I totally understand. We got to see each other about three times the entire time we were living apart. I was in Cincinnati and he was in South Carolina. You're right, the weekends are the hardest. My suggestion would be to find an activity you enjoy. I joined a kickball league. I was able to meet a lot of new people and keep myself occupied.
