Opinions...Direction cards

In the day and age of GPS & mapquest...are they vital?  Trying to find figure out if we need to put them in our invites or if addresses are enough?

I'm one of those people who swears by my GPS, but I also like to have a hard copy of directions as well.  Most venues will provide you with a set of direction cards free of charge.

I say do the direction cards, Especially for some of your older guests.  I know some of my older guests have no idea how to use a GPS so direction cards are good for them. lol

I think it depends on your guests.. our guests are mostly older relatives, who do not know how to use computers, and probably don't have a GPS.. so they would definitely need printed directions.

I am debating using the provided ones because they look kind of meh or scanning them onto my computer and re-printing them on cardstock and using the other side of the cardstock to put the wedding website on.

I think it's because of the older guests that I am torn...we received the ones provided by the venue as well and my thoughts exactly meh doesn't really go with my invite but the freaking directions are kind of long and screwing up my invite style...oh the little things :-) Thanks for everyone's input so far

I did a direction sheet to the church, the church to the venue.. and the venue provided the cards to the venue too.  I think its rude if you dont.

People who ignored our directions and used GPS or Mapquest got lost both on the way to the church and on the way to the reception.  Both church and reception venue were on windy country roads that aren't numbered logically, so GPS and mapquest thought the venues were elsewhere.  That lead to problems when people were told to turn left onto a road instead of right, and the closest gas station or whatever wasn't for miles.

I kind of wish in retrospect that we had known this and had written something on the directions card saying that internet/GPS directions were likely to be wrong.

So anyway, I don't think they're necessary, but you may want to do a test run with your location to see if GPS/mapquest really know the best way to go.

I think they're a nice touch and sometimes necessary -- I still have friends without GPS and I know most of the older crowd doesn't have them! We put a directions card in our invitation (made by our invitation designer, the ones from the venue were just plain ugly lol) and at the ceremony will be providing directions to the hotel and reception site for people to take if they need them.

I'd say that it depends on the venue and your guests. I missed a friend's ceremony last year b/c the GPS we used led us astray and I heard a few others had to call the church at the last minute for directions since it was difficult to find. So in that case, I wish we had been given direction cards. If it's an easy to find place, I don't think it should be an issue.
