GM is getting married

One of our gm's is getting married the start of next month. They have been engaged for about a year but only started major planning about December (Venue, attire, invitations, guest list, etc). We thought they were having no wp or already chose everyone already. GM calls and asks H to stand up with him end of last week! H is very happy and I'm happy too! What an honor! This is the second wedding H will have ever been in (ours was the first).

Turns out we have to buy a pair of Chuck's for the wedding. I'm not sure how I feel about this. H does not wear those kinds of shoes, he never has. He does not find them comfortable. Everyone else though has at least one pair but H.

Just about every fiber of me says requiring a specific shoe is wrong. The only reasons why I'm going along with it is 1)H can wear a suit he already owns  2)they are providing/ giving him a tie to wear  3)It is cheaper to buy a pair of shoes then rent a tux  4)They are really good friends and I don't want to rain on their parade.

Sorry, just needed to vent a little. Maybe get an outside perspective/ dose of reality.

Re: GM is getting married

  • Do any of the other guys in the bridal party or any other friends have a pair he can borrow?

  • try ebay? or like a second hand store and see if there's any rarely worn ones
  • Since they are providing pretty much the rest of the ensemble, I don't think it's a big deal to buy shoes.  If he can't find someone to borrow from (as PP's suggested) and he has to buy a pair - he could always donate them when he's done!

  • Talked to H about the shoes. He is against borrowing or buying second hand. At least I asked.

I think I found a pair of Chucks he may like. They don't look like traditional Chucks, in the required wedding colors and they are on sale. click.

H wearing his suit is a huge money saver. I just have to get it dry cleaned now.
