How many programs for ceremony?

If we are inviting 160 people to the reception, about how many programs should you print up for the ceremony?  Should you expect most to come to the ceremony?

Re: How many programs for ceremony?

  • We had 120 attend and I had 130 programs printed... I think we wound up bringing about half of them home.  I'm sure a lot of people took one per couple, and not one per person.
The general rule I've heard is to plan on one for each guest.

Side note... you shouldn't only be inviting people to the reception, so plan on inviting all 160 of those folks to the ceremony, too.
  • Usually weddings I have gone to more people come to the reception only and not the ceremony.

Of course I am inviting everyone to the ceremony.

I'd probably print 100. Unless your ushers are going to be handing them out to every person, which I've occasionally seen done. Then I'd print more like 130. You'll still have loads of extras.

Well wait, actually, can you wait to print them until you have RSVPs in? I just realize that's how many guests are invited, not attending.

  • One per couple/family, one per single guest, plus a dozen extras.

I worked at a stationery shop and this was the formula we used for programs. Many brides still ended up with some left over, but no one was ever short programs this way.
