Canon in D

I absolutely cannot stand the standard Canon in D (Pachelbel's Canon, etc.), it's so overdone and cliche I don't want it anywhere near my wedding. Unfortunately, my darling fiance LOVES it. Anyone know of any upbeat or campy remakes or covers of this classic? I think I'd be able to tolerate better it if it weren't so stuffy, or classical, (or the version by Transiberian Orchestra, ech!).

Also, when is this usually played? At the beginning when the wedding party comes in before they start "here comes the bride?"

We also refused to use anything trite and overdone, but if my FI really wanted to, I would have had them play it as a prelude before the processionals. I would try a jazz version like this one (start at like the 30 sec mark) [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AtOsUvp7F1c]
  • Thanks for the suggestions, ladies! I'll have to give a listen with him later while I'm not at work!  He listens to a lot of harder genres of music so I didn't want to mess TOO much with the few classical pieces he enjoys, lol, but we both like interesting or offbeat covers/remakes so I'm sure he won't be against something a little different.

  • Check out the Vitamin C Quartet, they do modern remakes of some good songs.  Good instrumental stuff to use in a ceremony.

I also thought Canon in D was overplayed so we stayed far away from it and chose other music instead.

</div><div>I think Naomikb means "Vitamin String Quartet" :-)  We used a lot of their music in our wedding.  My grandmother thought it sounded like lovely string quartet music, but we knew we were listening to Queen.   Everyone was happy:-)

  • This doesn't really go with what you asked for, but I thought you may appreciate it :) Gives me a good laugh every time I watch it.

Haha I know that had nothing to do with the post but thats hilarious, thanks for posting it :
  • If your Fiance doens't budge on the music, I'd say let him have it.  Brides get their way in almost every other category.  Gotta throw the guys a couple of bones :P
