What does a 95 year old Grandma wear?

Does anyone know of a place where I can take my Grandma to look for a dress?  She's 93 (she'll be 95 at the wedding) and legally blind.  She's fairly mobile (uses a cane) but can walk/dress on her own.  We're in Queens, but can meet up with my mom out in Suffolk County.  I was thinking Wedding Center in Commack but would love some more suggestions!

You might have better luck posting this on your local board (find it in the column to the left).

You don't NEED to buy something carried in a wedding shop; any store that carries ladies' dresses could have something appropriate.  I don't know if department stores are out of the question?

    <div>This exactly.
<div>She should wear whatever is comfortable for her and she looks good in. Just because it is for a wedding doesn't mean that it needs to come from a store with "wedding" or "bride" in the name.</div></div>

Just take her wherever she usually gets her formal wear if she wants something new.  There's nothing wrong with her wearing something nice that she already owns, either.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284

Your wedding is over a year and a half away. I highly suggest you wait until a month or so before the wedding and take her out (if possible) shopping at a local department store for a gown (since most department store have a lot of variety).

Wow.  Autumn is completely right.  You're really jumping the gun on this one.  If your wedding is 18 months away, your 93 year old grandma can buy a dress for the wedding in 17 months.  Buying something now is just silly.  And that also goes, btw, for the BM dresses, the bride's gown, the MOG dress, and the MOB dress.

Let this go for 17 months.  Then go to Macy's.
"Trix, it's what they/our parents wanted. Why so judgemental? And why is your wedding date over a year and a half ago? And why do you not have a groom's name? And why have you posted over 12,000 posts? And why do you always say mean things to brides?" palegirl146

You can check out a local department store, as some suggested. You mentioned Suffolk County and there are tons of malls there, some that include Macy's, Bloomingdales, and JcPenneys.
Smith Haven mall (clicky link) might be a good start and there is a David's bridal nearby if you can't find anything at the mall.

But, as others said, you have some time still, so no need to stress yet yet, ;)

Someone's dress size can change a lot in 18 months. I would wait until closer to the wedding (for BM dresses too).

A 95 year old grandmother can wear anything she wants.

Sorry to be blunt, but once a person gets to be that old, it's not very practical to buy an outfit for an event 2 years in advance.  She could deceased, ill, or bedridden by then.  Or she could shrink!  It happens.  My grandmother lived to be 98 and she not only shrank, she got really noticeable humped back that was pretty hard to work around.

Wait until a couple months in advance, and go buy her a few things to try on at home, then return the ones she doesn't want.

My mom is in her seventies, and I found her some grandmotherly looking cocktail dresses and evening pant suits at JC Penney's.  And I also found her some comfy evening pants and beaded jacket at Steinmart, all for under $100 per outfit.

I can pretty much guarantee she already has something that is appropriate hanging in her closet.

and in answer to the title of this post..."Anything she damn well pleases."  Sorry.  I had a feisty 95 year old grandma.

Even my 93 year old grandma who's in pretty good shape could drastically change over a couple years.

Whatever she wants to wear.  She may already own a dress.....
Where does she shop now? She must wear clothes as some point.

My 96 year-old-great-grandmother is a God-send and I would never tell her where to shop.  Well, that and she has impeccable style.  To have someone that old still in your life is AMAZING.  Cherish it!

Now for where to shop... my Great-Grandma has specific department stores that she has come to like over the years.  One of her favorites is Belk (like Macy's).  She wears the dressy women's suits (not the business suits, the dressy types in fun colors).  She already has the dress picked out that she's going to wear for my wedding and I wouldn't have it any other way.  The woman is a saint.  Even if she wanted to wear white, I wouldn't bat an eye, and neither would anyone else.  She wouldn't, but all the same.  We treasure every day with her.  Especially since she had to bury her daughter (my grandmother) just over a year ago.

What pp's have said, she's 95, she can wear WHATEVER she wants IMO.  Juicy Couture tracksuit?  Sure!  Leopard catsuit?  Fine!

My grandma lived to be 101.  She could have worn a tutu to most of our family events, as far as my family was concerned.
    .
If your Grandma wants to go shopping, go on her wishes  It would be a great day for the two of you if you maybe shopped, and went for lunch or something.  I did that kind of stuff (thank god) with my grandma until she was 99.  Enjoy her, I'm sad now, my grandma has passed away.

Ditto this.  Neither of my grandmothers are alive for my wedding.  If they were, they could wear their bathrobes and I'd be thrilled they were there.  I'm really going to miss having them there.
