Snarky Brides

Hypothetically speaking...

Warning:  Due to the volatile nature of hypothetical situations, this post may very well self destruct after awhile.  You should probably not quote it, just in case.  I'd hate for it to make your computer explode ;)

Crap...you missed it ;)  Thanks for playing.

Thanks everyone for your great advice!

Re: Hypothetically speaking...

  • Does the new job have more room for growth within the company? Is it closer to home? I am thinking along the lines of focusing on the positives of the new job...

I'm not sure if there is more room for growth--it LOOKS like it, and that's a big hope I have.  But I'd hate to say that and not know for sure.  It's about 10 minutes closer.  The hours are better, but that's about all I have so far.

  • I'd probably just say I was ready for a change of environment.  You're not really trashing the old job, but still being upfront and truthful with the potential new employer.  I'm sure they're aware that sometimes people just dont mesh well with an organization and they'll probably figure that's the case.

And I thought of that, but I've only been with my current job for almost 10 months.  So I'd hate to say  I'm ready for a change in environment after just 10 months and have them think I'll do the same to them, you know?

  • I would empasize that you want a different environment, closer to home (if it is), different hours (if they are).  That's pretty much what I did when I changed jobs last, except for the closer to home, cause it was way further.
  • Eek yeah, that makes it tough.

I've only been at my current job 13 months, and this month is the first one where I don't think about quitting multiple times per week.  So I understand how you're feeling.
  • Technically speaking it IS a different environment, as it would be day treatment, vs the residential treatment I'm currently employed at, so maybe I can spin it that way.

    I had to quote something, just to oppose you. <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-tongue-out.gif" border="0" alt="Tongue out" title="Tongue out" />

I think speaking to your own needs is always a good start, which includes commute and regular hours, etc., as you said. You obviously want to grow in your job, and not every company is going to be a good fit for your goals. I think you can speak to that having "only" been at your current job for 10 months. Hypothetically, of course.

  • Eh, I did it to my last job after 6 months.  I figured it looked better than moving after a few months only, at least I gave it a shot, ya know?  Maybe not the brightest mood, but by then I didn't care, as long as I got out.

Ooh, I like this as well. Expanding your exposure to different clinical settings is a great reason for seeking a job change. Especially if you frame it in the context of "I was/am going to be a student, and want some diversity in my training and experience."

  • what Beatles said, and tell them you hear they have a gym and ice cream on Fridays. Even if they don't, maybe they'll worry about their rep and install a gym and hand out ice cream on Fridays. YWIA!

Absolutely! But it will cost you ice cream on Fridays. Whether you get it at your new job or not. Deal?

Hmmm, for how long, and your place or mine?  I feel like we could work something out.

Mine in the winter, yours in the summer, for 3 years. Too much? Fine. Send an ice-packed Cold Stone For Coffee Lovers Only pint and we'll call it even.

BUT IT HAS TO ARRIVE ON A FRIDAY!
  • Brilliant plan.  Let's make it contingent on me getting the job, though, ok?  Ok, great!  Otherwise I won't be able to buy ice cream for me, much less for you.
