Can I Get a Venue? Geez...

My FH and I are food fanatics. I mean, he's a food scientist for crying out loud. When we began talking about our wedding we knew that the food would be the most important thing, besides the ceremony. After looking at venues without in-house catering, we realized that the cost of the venue would limit our budget for food. We thought the solution would be just to find a restaurant to host the reception. Except it's not that easy. I have not found a single place in Madison that can accommodate our 140 person guest list and our discriminating tastes. Does anyone know of a restaurant, anywhere in southern Wisconsin, that can accommodate a wedding but still make high-quality, seasonal food?

Re: Can I Get a Venue? Geez...

  • We got married at Lake Windsor Country Club, and the food was excellent. The cost of renting the venue was only about 500. We did our ceremony and reception there, so we paid 1000 to reserve both areas. I think the chicken was like 24 per plate and the beef was 29. Other than the rental fee, cost of food and alcohol, and standard gratuity and taxes, there were no hidden fees like at some places we visited. If you are looking for a place with high quality food, but a low rental fee, Lake Windsor is a good choice.
  • If you're on a budget, could you work with Madison Area Tech college perhaps? I'm sure they have students (and Chef instructors) in their Culinary program who would love to take a project like this on.

That way, you could select a venue that allows outside catering AND have a big say over the types of food that are served.

  • Check out the Black Swan in Grafton - open catering and not too expensive room rental rate.
