My Girls have found dresses!!! I'm scared about my own dress...

I'm so excited that my girls found beautiful dresses at affordable prices and I really really love the differences in the dresses.. but at the same time I keep gaining weight from stress and I'm worried I won't be able to fit into my dress!! My worst fears? Not quite bu tit's close enough to them. I just really want to know how to lose weight without running my knees can't take that!

  • There are plenty of awesome workouts you can do besides running that won't hurt your knees.  Have you tried cycling, either indoors or outdoors? Going to an organized spin class or just doing some of the bike programs on your own can be major calorie blasters! In one 50-min class I usually burn over 500 calories (I wear a heart rate monitor). Also the Elliptical machine can put less stress on your knee than running.

If you don't belong to a gym, I would check out different workout DVDs. Jillian Michaels, Bob Harper, and Jackie Warner all have good ones that are circuit training and incorporate hand weights, which is great for toning up. Like PP suggested, if you have a Wii or something similar you can do games/workout activities on those too. If nothing else, getting out and power walking can still burn calories.

Besides the exercise though, keep a food log of what you're eating. Maybe use Spark people or My Fitness Pal to input your stats and see how many cals you should be eating per day. Try to up your amount of fruits and veggies and cut back on processed foods. More than anything, being aware of stress eating and overeating is key. Also drink lots of water and try to cut out alcohol and soft drinks.

  • I do some simple yoga which helps a bunch with stress. And the WiiFit is a lot of fun too if you have anything like that.

  • I like the Livestrong calorie calculator.  It's really just about net calories; working out means that's more calories you can eat.
This is a neglected planning bio.
This is a belated married bio, with no reviews yet because I'm lazy.

Sometimes I feel like people think that brides are delicate little flower princesses who get all dressed up and pretty for one special moment of their dreams, when really they're just normal people who just happen to be getting married. Things shouldn't have to be sugar-coated for grown-ass women. -mstar284
  • If you change your eating habits, you'd be surprised how far a little exercise can go.  It really is like 75% diet, 25% exercise, as much as I have had trouble admitting that to myself, haha.  I don't mind exercise, but I hate dieting!
I highly recommend myfitnesspal, it really works!  Just focus on making small, healthier changes (snacking on veggies/dip or fruit, paying attention to suggested portions) rather than a crash diet.  GL!!

I was going to say this exact same thing.  Women even more than men are MUCH more affected by diet.  Cut out empty calories (like soda and alcohol), increase your water intake, and then start making some small changes - more chicken and veggies, less beef and pasta.  Eat some carrot sticks or a yogurt or an apple instead of whatever you snack on now.  Pinterest can be a great source for healthy recipes.
  • I just bought fruits and more carrots and chicken!! No where is this fitnesspal located? Is it an app?? I would really like to know so that I can go ahead and get started I have 7 months to lose 40 pounds I reall want to lose it by January!! Even with the hoildays that will be happening!!

  • If you are someone who likes to snack try cutting up celery and having that instead of unhealthy options :)

</div><div>True fact. I've been a marathoner at about 154 lbs for about 5 years. I ran probably 40 miles a week, and I still weighed 154. Last fall, I cut back my portions. I used to eat two helpings of stuff at dinner, thinking it was okay because I'd run for an hour. Now I have one helping of everything at dinner, unless it's veggies. I increased my protein and veggie intake, decreased my carbs and try to avoid simple carbs and sugar. I never drank soda or anything, but I just started making smarter choices about things. As I started losing weight, I was able to increase the intensity of my workouts, and get more miles in the same time.</div><div>
</div><div>Anyway, I weigh about 124 now. Just by fixing my diet and being conscious of what I put in my mouth.
