  I agree.  use what you both love.  it would look good just through in a dash of white and maybe if you used lavender you need a darker color to throw in there for the offset to make your colors spark like a dark colored overlay.  It'll look amazing either way

  i'd say more purple for spring, different shades of purple for the bridesmaid dresses would be gorgeous. 
  
  red seems to be more of a fall/winter color but you could easily do some purple with a red or dark pink pop. i wanted to choose the "peacock" color from davids bridal with hughes of pink and gold for a spring wedding, but i'm going with "watermelon" which is a darker hot pink- alsmost looks red- and is gorgeous with silver and black/white classy feel

  i thnk you could definitely do red and purple.  just keep the purples light, and make sure the red has some serious blue undertones and you'll still be looking springy.  don't let the colors saturate too much (cuz that would be kinda fall-y)--keep it light with some creams and silvers thrown in and you'll be great.

  OR if you wanna do blues and pinks...don't use "baby" colors.  go with a turquoise and a hot pink.  no easter eggs in sight, but definitely some spring-y colors.
