Fondue

Christmas dinner this year is going to be fondue.  Just H, my sister, her BF and her SIL.

What are your favourite things to have with/in fondue?

We're doing cheese fondue to start, meat on the raclette, veggies in broth, and chocolate of course!

  • Mandy - if Cyn has any Epicure Cheese Chives & Bacon add that to the cheese fondue. I added it once, and it's the only time I've ever enjoyed cheese fondue.

  • We recently went to a fondue restaurant that had marshmallows for the chocolate fondue and then it had a bowl of crushed graham crackers that you could dip the chocolate covered marshmallows in to create "smores." It was yummy!

  • I've never had fondue, and this thread makes me wish I had.
  • I am going to bake banana bread for the chocolate I think.

I'm not big on the oil fondue.  I love doing chicken and shrimp on the raclette with garlic butter!!

I think we'll do brocoli, cauliflower, asparagus, mushrooms, onion for the veg.  I always dip some cheese and some I'll cook up in the broth.

  • Oh yeah, bread for the cheese fondue.
And I'm serious about the Cheese Chives and Bacon.

  • Cheese - bread & apples

Chocolate - strawberries, pineapple, bananas, dark fudgy brownies.

And, be sure to include mushrooms in your veggies.  Yum.

  • DH and I were both sick on our anniversary last weekend and couldn't go to our special restaurant to celebrate. So we made fondue. Yummy.

We did an oil fondue with pieces of filet mignon, lamb, and veal, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, and the tiny onions. DH made 4 dipping sauces/spreads -- 1 was an Asian-inspired kind of teriyaki sauce, 1 was a honey mustard, 1 was a salty rub, and the 4th (and best) was a bearnaise sauce.

Then we had chocolate fondue a few hours later for desert with banana slices, cherries, raspberries, and butter cookies.

With cheese fondue, I especially like bread (of course!), but we've also done potatoes, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes, oinions, gherkins pickles, and other fresh veggies.
