Wedding Album-HELP

Our wedding was about 4 months ago and so I'm finally feeling ready to work on our album.  I've been working on it in my spare time for the past few days but I feel really overwhelmed.  My question is - did your photographer help you put the album together? Ours sent me some mats and when I started working on it I felt completely lost.  I searched online and found some beautiful inspiration but I don't know how to convey what I like and how I'd like it to look without sitting down with someone.  I just emailed him and he's busy most weekends and evenings so I would need to take a day off from work which I really don't want to do right now.  I guess I was just wondering how everyone else went about doing theirs.

We went with a digital album. It was an upgrade to our package. The original package we would have gotten a 30 page traditional book. We wanted a digital album after seeing our photographers work. So we were told the price of the upgrade. We paid that and assumed (yes, I know what happens when you do that) that we were getting a 30 page digital book

Found out the week before our wedding (when going over the balances due) that our upgraded album would be a digital 24 page album. Annoying, but whatever, we figured we would pay for a 30 page digital book.

When we met with them to pick up our proof book they put together a 48-page digital layout of what our album could look like.

Beautiful, yes, but 48 pages was a few more upgrades.

We spent about a week trying to figure out how to reduce the size of the book layout we were given. And we realized there was no way top cut pages with out losing precious images.

So we had to pay again for yet another upgrade.

Beautiful work, but a little annoying.

But in answer to your question: Yes, our photographer gave us a digital draft of what our album could look like. The pages were printed on a sheet of paper with each photo page measuring 1" x 2", and those images were emailed to me. So we could see how they looked.

Usually my photographer would have us do the album in an in office session where it would all get layed out. However, we live in SC so we had to do it over the phone/email.
First they had us pull out X number of pictures we wanted into include. They would set it up and ask us to pick X more etc etc.
Finally they sent us a spreadsheet with the page #, pictures on that page and size of the pic so we could lay out the proofs at our house and see how we liked it. Then we got to pick which we wanted b/w, and other effects.  Once that was done we had the album about a month later.
The whole process took about a month.

I had the same photog as Teri but did not do the digital album.

I received a draft of the pages based upon the pictures our photographer picked and then i edited it slightly

i too ended up with a few more pages than i originally paid for.
