It's Friday!

And thank goodness!

How is everyone?  Does anyone have exciting weekend plans?

H is on call on Sunday.  I plan on trying to tackle as much of my front yard as I can this weekend.  And apparently I'm expected to drive to see my ILs, but I really want H to come with me for that.  I have been to see them without him twice in the last two weeks, and I think that's too much.  We don't live here so I can see them, we live here so he can see them.

Re: It's Friday!

  • Yay, Friday!

I'm home alone tonight so I plan on tackling paper #2 and getting some of that done, so I can stop agonizing over it.  Tomorrow I'm doing some shopping for the new place (that I haven't found yet, but I need some things for it so tomorrow is as good a day as any) and then we're having some people over for chili and firespinning, so hopefully it doesn't rain.  Sunday I'm off to my parents' for laundry (my next apartment is either going to have free laundry facilities, or I'm going to buy a washer and dryer, this coin op or hauling laundry to my parents' house crap will never happen again).

  • Good Morning!  Bay seriously, that's a great requirement for apartment shopping!  Washer/Dryer connections at the very least.  I could never share laundry again, that ish is so ridiculous!  It is nice when you live alone though if you have to do coin op, you can have it done all at once, in 3 loads (light, dark, towels) all in about an hour and a half.

Anyways.  Tonight I take J to dance, so it's just a regular night, but Trevor doesn't have soccer today or tomorrow so I actually get to see him for more than 30 minutes right before bedtime.  Where really I'm so tired from waiting up from him that it isn't exactly quality time.

So tomorrow will be a day full of doing nothing b/c we're finally all home together.
  • Once I had a washing machine in the apartment, I never wanted to go back.  Saving up quarters sucks.  I should warn you that a lot of dryers that rental companies buy for their facilities suck.
  • Oh yea.  Dryers are always the worst, you have to dry things like 3 times to get them dry.  But, you're at home, so the good with the bad.
  • That sounds great, Stacks.  Enjoy!

Mica, we have coin op right now and it sucks.  It's really nice of my parents to let me do laundry at their place, but their dryer is about 14 years old and isn't working the way it used to, so it takes forever to dry things.  Plus no matter how much I "warn" them that I'm coming, someone is using it when I come over (usually my sister).  I probably will buy one of those standing washer/dryer unit things, a friend of mine had one and he said it was really easy to disconnect and take with him when he moved.  But we'll see what the prices are.

  • It's going to be a slow day.
  • Yeah, FI's old apartment had crappy coin washer and dryer facilities but he also came over to my house a lot. We live way closer to him than he does to his parents. The new apartment has washer/dryer hookups and his parents gave us a set from FFIL's old job apartment. Score!

    Our systems are down. Fantastic.
  • Morning! I have a staff appreciation day today aka forced fun with people I don't talk to except once a year. At least I don't have to be there until 9:30 and get out around 2:30

Bay-When I moved, my only requirement was an apartment with washer/dryer. It's right in my apartment. It's so nice.

  • Hello ladies!  H and I took yesterday off work so it felt like a Sunday so I am incredibly happy that it's Friday today, as opposed to Monday, which my body feels like it should be.  I'm hoping for a low-key weekend, I feel like we've been going, going, going lately.

Bay, amen on the washer/dryer.  I feel like that's one of those things that, once you have your own, you can never live without it again!

Does anyone have any recommendations for simple beet recipes?  I got beets in my produce delivery this week.  I have eaten them before but never prepared them and they look kinda scary.  From a brief search of the webz, it looks like roasting is the way to go but I am looking for recipes.
  • Looking online, it seems like buying two separate units would be cheaper.  I am FINE with that.  Definitely in my budget.

Also, Ollie (H's fat kitty) is being really lovey and clingy on me lately.  I don't think he's feeling well.  He woke me up by sneezing repeatedly and he keeps nuzzling me.  I have to leave for work in like 10 minutes and he's not helping.

  • Morning!  Tomorrow is the air and sea show so we'll be at the beach all day.  I can't wait to just sit and not feel like I should be cleaning or organizing.  ha!

  • Bay, just a little word of advice. If you can afford it, get a front-load washing machine. The initial cost is a good bit more, but you will save in the long run by reducing your water bill and cutting WAY down on the drying time.

Morning, all. It's Friday finally, and I have no motivation to do much of anything today. Fortunately, we only have 4 more weeks of school left after today, 3 weeks for the seniors. Woot!
  • Bay, poor kitty. I hate when Baxter sneezes.

Fezz, I am jealous of your beach-going adventure. Have a good time though, you deserve to relax!
  • Thanks for the tip, Sara!  I'll definitely look into it.

Fezz, I am super jealous.  We don't have a "real" beach in Connecticut since we don't border the ocean, only Long Island Sound.  Our "beaches" suck.

    Damn right.

I wish I could take like...a national Knottie road trip.  Hit up everyone.

And then take a flight to Sweden and chill with Snippy again.

Morning!  We're finally using the hibachi groupon I bought forever ago tonight.  We're going with H's brother and his wife so it should be fun.  After that my weekend will consist of cramming for my last two tests.  We were supposed to go to the beach with my mom, but I have too much school stuff to do.  H is supposed to be getting us a storage unit today, so I think his weekend will be spent filling it up.

  • Mm. Hibachi.  I may have to tell J that's what we're doing tonight.

  • Mm hibachi does sound good. I can't wait til H gets home so we can go on a date haha.

Maybe I'll go to the beach this weekend. It's supposed to be a nice weekend.

  • It's just a quick drive to Tampa, Fezz.

  • OMG hibachi is the best.  I haven't been in so long.  How far is the drive to Tampa?  I don't think I'd make it by tonight.

Agreed! Rhode Island is the closest place to us that has really good beaches.

It's funny that laundry was brought up because I am stewing over our neighbors use of our washer/dryer. We live on the first floor and have laundry in the basement. They live upstairs and DO have hookups, but choose not to buy machines. When my grandmother lived here (she still owns the house) she did not allow them to use the washer/dryer, but I said they could now that we live here. The wife is unemployed and doesn't have a car, so she is home ALL DAY. She asked me to tell her what day was best, and I said Wednesday because FI and I are never ever home on Wednesdays. She took that as "do laundry whenever you feel like it," and now I'm thinking there's a reason my grandparents always maintained their distance from all of their tenants. :/

It also bugs me that they use warm and hot water settings because I always do cold washes unless I'm washing sheets and germy stuff.

    But I'm such a pushover that I can't say anything. :(

  • Ali, you SHOULD say something.  Washing clothes isn't cheap, especially if you're using the hot settings.  I would.

LTB, that sucks!  I always hate it when people book weddings over a holiday weekend.  BIL's wedding was on Labor Day weekend, but we didn't have to worry about accommodations because MIL rented a beach house for the weekend and we all just stayed there.  But it was up in Rockport, MA, and the traffic was balls all weekend.

That sucks, LTB.  I assume it's one of those things you kind of have to go to?

I forget that my car is not a sound-proof bubble, then I get really confused when the people in the cars around me at stoplights are staring at me while I'm singing.  Then I figure it out and get embarassed, because there's a reason I only sing in the car when no one else is around.  :-)

    Also, good morning.

ETA:  Also, this was a P&R.  Work would like me to actually come in today instead of playing in the morning thread.

I am the same way. Always getting weird looks. :)

That reminds me of that show where they put hidden cameras in people's cars to see what they do when they think they're alone. Lots of nose-picking, make-up applying, conversations with themselves. What cracks me up is that even if you don't know about the camera, don't you know you have windows?!
