Is it Friday yet?????

I am in such of a need of a huge drink Friday night!

Last night I went to go buy gas and Mucinex (bf is sick) and I don't know about where you guys live, but there are people in my town who have Christmas lights and trees up! I love Christmas but I'm waiting until after Thanksgiving!

Also, anyone else working the Friday after Thanksgiving? I am! Thanks Hurricane Sandy!

I'm worried sick about my poor cat, he got really sick last night, bf is with him at the vet right now ughhhh. But I just got a call from my bf and he said everything is fine, Buddy is going to have to get an enema and he's getting microchipped (that was my decision kind of like "while we're here we might as well" lol). I get to pick him up tonight!

But good news is my dad is in town today for work and is taking us out to dinner. And his old employees fixed our snow blower for us and dropped it off yesterday!

How's everyone else's day going??

ETA-I meant to say Friday after Thanksgiving duhhhhh!

Re: Is it Friday yet?????

  • You are one busy lady! I'm glad your kitty is ok and hopefully the BF will get better soon too. I completely agree about waiting to put Christmas decorations up until after turkey day. Have fun at dinner tonight...and YAY for a fixed snow blower!

I wish it was Friday already too. I'm mostly cleaning the house this week since my mom comes into town Wednesday and we're hosting Thanksgiving this year. I'll probably get some of my baking done this weekend too.
  • Morning!

I'm glad your cat is ok, Buddy. Sick pets make me sad.

I really lucked out with the holidays this year. I have to work a half day on Christmas Eve and then I don't come back until January 2nd. It will be GLORIOUS!

I'm doing ok today. Dealing with a shitty dad (CN for those I'm not friends with on FB: my dad's an asshole. Recently he unfriended FI and me on FB and I discovered last night that he changed his numbers also) but I am starting to feel better about the whole thing.

I went to dinner with my BFF/MOH last night and had pork belly for the first time ever. I can say that I'm not a fan.

I'm ready for it to be tomorrow at 4:30.

  • Friday after Christmas? Dude, I work Christmas Eve. For some reason, we get Black Friday off but do not get Christmas Eve off. I have no idea what their thinking is behind this, but it seems like materialism is winning once more in the Christmas season.

We have neighbors who have already put up their decorations, and a couple of my coworkers have had their trees up since Christmas. I think they're insane and need to slow their damn roll. After Thanksgiving, I'll be setting up our Festivus pole and apparently my dad has decorated a mini tree for Tyler and myself after Tyler was all bummed by our lack of tree for the last three years.

I'm ready for this week to be over. We've had the same nurse call out every. single. day. this week. Because she only calls out a day at a time, we haven't been sent coverage, so we've had ten patients each every day and I was alone doing all of the treatments and telephone triages on Monday. I'm mentally and physically exhausted, and I am so relieved that tomorrow is my day off because I am just done.

And it's now a week until Thanksgiving, so I'm trying not to get wildly excited and anticipatory about Tyler's statement that he's going to propose before Thanksgiving. It's hard to not be excited, but if he decides to change his plans, I don't want to be let down and depressed, so I'm trying to keep my mind on other things. It's hard though when you really don't feel like you have much to look forward to, so you don't want to think about other things :/.

  • I wish it were Friday already! Glad your cat is ok buddy!

    Allusive your pic is gorgeous

Rdr- as you know I love you

I have to work half a day the day after thanksgiving, half a day on Christmas eve and I'm working NYE. It's makes NYE not as fun when you are up at 6:30. I'm home right now waiting for the repair guy to get here to finally look at the washer/dryer. I hope he is able to fix it.

  • We work on NYE but get New Year's Day off. I guess they realize that we need to drink.

  • Danser - Thanks for the complement! It's one of me faves from our e-shoot!

Ahstillwell - You and Beth?!? This is too much to take! I think it's going to be a very exciting Black Friday around here...and not because of the sales!!!
  • Allusive-I'll be cleaning the house on Saturday and Sunday as well. I have you beat, my parents are coming up Tuesday while I'm at work. LOL. Who know what they are going to do while I'm not there. BF is offering to PTO that day so that he can entertain them. I think my mom is going to bake pies then. Is this your first Thanksgiving hosting? It is for me, I'm a little nervous. I know it's my parents and friends but still!

RDR-He would always get backed up like this before, so when I called the vet who answered goes "oh Buddy not again, I'll get the enema ready LOL". I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. It sucks when family can be like that. We have cut off all contact with my mom's side of the family basically because my grandmother treated and treats my mom and aunt horrible! How was the restaurant you went to last night besides the pork belly? We are always looking for new restaurants to try in the city but end up going to Little Italy. 4:30 tomorrow I am going to skip out of my office and will have a vodka drink in my hand by 5:05 pm lol.

ahstill-I meant to say Black Friday in my original post, I'm glad you picked up on that lol. I was suppossed to have it off, but since we left early the day of the hurrican because they were shutting the highways down, we got docked PTO. My PTO balance sucks since last year I was one week short of applying for short term disability because I had my gall bladder removed and complications from that. Also with the nurse calling out, that sucks! That happens all the time where I work that the charge nurses will just say "if you're taking XY and Z day off just tell us now so we can call the nurse pool". I always wanted to get into nursing, but things like that would annoy me. And I cannot wait to hear your impending announcement ;) we are all going to go BSC for you!

Danser-I am SO glad someone is coming to fix your washer and dryer! Is it hard to find someone to repair one of the washer/dryer combos?

@Stillwell - Good luck with keeping your sanity this week! I know it will be tough, but the important thing is that you know a proposal is coming soon - so keep enjoying this time because it's almost over for you!!!

And I have to work Christmas Eve as well, I think. I have like 4 more vacation days to use before the end of the year, but I don't know if I'll get to use them all. Nevermind - I am GOING to use them all because they are mine to use, and it would be stupid not to. Hello 3 or 4 day weekends in December!!!

BF and I are having a housewarming party on Saturday at our new apartment! I'm excited because we haven't had anyone over yet other than my mom. My youngest sister and her new (and first serious!) boyfriend are coming, BF's two younger sisters are hopefully coming, my best friend and her BF, and about 10 more of BF's friends and our mutual friends. I still need to buy food, booze, and I need to clean the apartment. I can't wait to have everyone meet and play with the new puppy too, especially since socialization is so important.

Other than that, my mom and stepdad might come over on Sunday afternoon to meet the puppy, and if they come, they'll bring their puggle, Bella to meet Kaya. I'm sure Kaya will be too rambunctious for Bella, but I'm hoping they'll play together a little bit. We want them to meet at least 2 or 3 times before my mom watches Kaya for us when we go on vacation in January.

ETA: Oooh - since I know we have lots of wine lovers here, I wanted to share that I tried Riutnite Sweet Red last night, which I bought from Stew Leonard's, and I loooved it. I exclusively drink white wines, but I thought this one might be good because it was sweet and you drink it chilled, and I was right. Thus, I totally recommend it to anyone wary of red wines, it's a good stepping stone.

I'm so relieved that sick time and vacation time roll over every year for me. I still have 84.74 hours of vacation time and 125.33 hours of sick time.

  • Still: I'm jealous that your work rolls your PTO over.

RDR: I'll kick your dad's a$$ if you kick my mom's. Sounds like they'd be a perfect match for each other.

I desperately need for it to be Friday at 4:30. I'm so effing over this week. It's been up and down all week - and I just need to sleep. I was up at 2:00 this morning with a godawful pain in my lower stomach. I don't know wtf it was - but after about 45 minutes I was able to go somewhat back to sleep.

I have Thanksgiving and the day after off - in construction there's just no point to working. I have no idea what's going on with my employment much past that - so I'm just taking it day by day. As of right now, we typically either have a half day, or take Christmas eve off - and it depends on what day Christmas falls on - with it being a Tues/Wed (i don't remember which it is) - I have no clue what BossMan will do. But honestly, I don't plan on being here past 12/21. :)

Danser - I'm crossing my fingers that the washer/dryer gets fixed and you have no more problems!!! :)

  • I'm not going to lie, I love all of the paid time off that I get for the holidays. I am working a half day on Wednesday before Thanksgiving (this is my vacation time though) and then we get Thursday and Friday. For Christmas and New Years, my last day will be December 21st and my next day back at work will be January 2. 11 days off in row...YAY! My job rocks!

I'm glad your kitty is alright, Buddy!

What a sweet BK to offer to use his PTO to entertain your folks! It's not my first year hosting...but it will be the most people (8 total!) that we've had in my little condo...so we'll see how that goes! I'm somewhat of a Hosting Hoar. I host parties and holidays any chance I get!

    Tips to keep your sanity:
    - Do any baking you can ahead
    - Dice and measure out any veggies you need the day before (onions and celery for stuffing, etc.)
    - Have all the dishes/glasses/serveware you'll need cleaned and set aside (pull out that roasting pan from above the fridge and the gravy boat from the guest closed ahead of time)
    - Have some no-bake appetizers on hand in case you're running a bit behind schedule
    - Don't forget to set out your turkey 3-4 days in advance if it's frozen!
    - Have a glass (or 2!) of while while you cook and remember all of your guests are thrilled that you're cooking and they don't have to. They'll love whatever you put on the table, so it's not worth stressing over!

You're going to do GREAT! If you don't already have a family turkey recipe that you're in love with, let me know. I have a fail-proof turkey that's EASY and super tasty. I'd be happy to bring it in tomorrow and share it with you.
  • The service repair guy is finally here, yay!
It forever for someone to come out because we just bought it so it was under warranty so they only had one company that could come out to service it. The company had no power and was backed up on service calls from the hurricane it's been about 2 weeks now. BF is mostly talking to the guy.

It will be an exciting black Friday I can't wait to hear about everyone's proposals.

I am printing this out and putting it on my fridge!

I think we have the turkey/stuffing situation down. Thank you so much though! We've just used a lot of butter on the turkey then dipped a cheesecloth in melted butter and put that on the turkey. It's a lot of butter ~2 lbs.

My dad just called he's bringing a case of my favorite wine from my favorite vineyard in the Finger Lakes for my own "holiday secret stash" today. Then they're bringing two more cases for Thanksgiving (can you tell we're complete winos???) so we have the wine situation down pat!

I'm going to take a picture and AW it on here, because if I can pull this off without a hitch and be on here to check in on engagement announcements AND be completely trashed and not burn down anything then I should be good to go!

Going to be crazy psycho cat mom and call the vet at lunch to see how he's doing. I think I figured out the source of the fleas. We officially have no are rugs in my house (they were left by the seller so we were going to get rid of them anyway). I feel bad because my cat loved laying on the one area rug and I was confused as to why he was avoiding it (I feel like such a horrible cat mom!). My BF's friends came over a few weeks ago and they made a comment about how their indoor/outdoor cat had fleas, then I noticed the one friend's son doing a lot of scratching. A flea's life cycle is about two to three weeks. I put 2+2 together. I'm not going to go crazy with flea bombing bc they are coming over for Thanksgiving and there's not point since they'll be bringing MORE fleas to my house. As long as Buddy has the topical flea medication he should be fine and I'll bomb after Thanksgiving.

  • My family also eats pretty late, normally arond 5:30-6. Last year it was almost 7 though. I don't think I've ever eaten before 5 as far as I can remember.

  • ughhh so the repair guy just left. He did some fixes, a small load of laundry was run the clothes were wetter after 60 minutes of drying. He has to order a part to fix it and has to look at his schedule tonight to see when he can come back to fix it. So much for running a load of laundry tonight....

Boo. Hopefully once he gets the part he can fix it ASAP!

Today is my Friday! Yay! I'm trying to get a ton of homework done today so I don't have to do it during Thanksgiving break. I'm not focusing very well though. I just have to finish putting together an online presentation for a class but since the professor for this class has been having very serious health problems this semester and we haven't really been having class I don't really know what the hell I'm doing.
