Finally making progress! (Long WR AW with pictures of cute kids)

So I've finally stopped being utterly lame and have gotten into gear on wedding planning.  Last night, I addressed all of our STDs and they're ready to go into the mail tomorrow! (So I'm a teensy bit late sending them out...  oh well).  Our guest list is right on track.  Our contract with the venue allows us to have between 120 and 180 guests, and if everyone who gets an STD comes, kids included, we'll have 166.
 
FI nailed down his side of the WP and officially asked his best man yesterday.  Best man was then so excited that he made a FB status about it.  I thought that was cute.

I need cute ideas for ways to ask my BMs.  Most of them alread know that they're involved, but I'd like to make it official somehow.  They're all located at least 5 hours from where I currently live, so I'll have to mail them something...  thoughts?

Finally, we've decided on our ring bearer and flower girl.  We were already pretty sure, but we made it official.  RB is my little cousin:




And FG is FI's cousin-once-removed:




Cute, right?


On another note (since I'm not done rambling yet):  I'm slightly worried about our venue reservation.  I pulled up the contract last night to double-check the guest list restrictions, and I saw that they require a second deposit to be made 6 months out from the wedding date.  Well, we're a little over 4 months out and we haven't made that second deposit.  I never got an email, letter, or phone call asking for it.  Surely, they wouldn't just cancel our reservation without checking with us, right?  Right?!

    I'd recommend contacting your venue about the payment, but they wouldn't cancel on you. My venue sent me a reminder about all the stuff they needed. Our final payment was late, but it was because the coordinator was late giving me the bill!

    Okay, how to ask bridesmaids. One of my friends lives in LA and we just called each other (as we were BMs for each other a year and a half apart). Not the cute idea you're looking for. (I took the two local girls to a fancy tea, but I know that won't work, either.)

    You can keep it simple and sincere--a card or a letter. Lyn's way was really cute. Is there a theme you can play on?

    Thanks, that's reassuring.  I did send our coordinator an email last night when I saw the clause in the contract, but I probably won't hear back from her until tomorrow.

    I was thinking about just sending all the girls a card with a handwritten note and a small framed picture of the two of us.  I don't have any pictures with FSIL (well, none with<em> just</em> the two of us), though, so I'm not sure what to do there...

    I'm disgustingly cheesy- So I'd probably send them a wicked awesome wand and ask them to bring "some magic to our special day by being a bridesmaid."



    I'm working on some WR stuff too...trying to play around with paper themes...what I want to the invites, STDs to look like...

    Our venue won't send reminders for late payments, they just start tacking on fees. I forget the rate (like per week, day or whatever). But I know it is any extra $250 as is explained in our contract.

    Lunar, you are a genius.  If those wands didn't cost $40 each, I would do that for sure.  But any wand I buy is going straight in my own collection.  (I already have Harry's; Ginny's is next on my list).

    Jen - Our contract doesn't say anything about extra fees.  I really hope they don't do that to us!  The contract just says that if payment isn't made, the reservation is cancelled and we have no further obligations.

    I think they have to tell you in writing if they are gonna tack on fees. Seem shittay, otherwise.
    It says if the payment isn't made by x date they'll cancel? Maybe they haven't kept a close watch on their deposits and once you hear from them you'll be able to send it that deposit in. Fingers crossed it's NBD.

    Yeah, quoting directly from the contract, it says:

    "A second retainer of $1000 will be due 6 months from your wedding date.  All retainer fees will be credited toward the cost of your event.  If your retainer fees are not received by the due date, your reservation will be cancelled and the club has no further obligations under this agreement."

    So, they would be perfectly within their rights to drop us completely, but it seems highly unlikely to me that they would cancel a contract worth 15K without even a phone call... 

    I hope she writes back soon.

    And yeah, I wouldn't worry too much about them canceling your reservation. They WANT you to be there because then they get their 15k. Fingers crossed they call back soon!!!

    I'm sure you're fine with the deposit, I'd just make sure you contact them soon though JIC someone else asks to reserve that date!

    My first thought was to put your sewing machine to good use and make up a HP theme house banner or something. They could hang it up. But Lunar's idea is pretty awesome. Glad to hear that your plans are coming along. Show me moar!
