xp: Short BM dresses and shoes??

I want to have my girls wear short Fuschia dresses.  What is the protocal for short dresses, should everyone wear the same shoes because they are visible?  I was thinking of just telling each girl to wear black strappy heels of their choice.  Opinions?

They don't need to be the same, but in pictures it does look better if they are similar. Black strappy heels sounds good in theory, but you might want to be a bit more clearer.

Black strappy sandals, black strappy open-toe heels, etc

That way everyone is on the same page.

    Good luck!

My girls wore short black dresses, and I told them to wear black shoes. Period. I was at the dress shop, talking to one of my bms about this, and the sales person said to me, "You know, people will be able to see the shoes. And they'll be in your pictures." I had to laugh, I mean, no kidding, I understand that shoes can be seen with knee length pictures.

It all depends on your style. To me, having everyone be matchy matchy, either in pictures or in person was just not a priority, and I don't regret it at all. On the other hand, I've been in several weddings where the bride has dictated everything, and that's (mostly) fine, since that is what she wanted for her day.

My girls were in long dresses so I told them to wear whatever colory/style shoes they wanted. For short dresses I agree that it needs to be more cohesive.

I would ask that they wear black shoes but not specify heel.  One of my BM had never worn heels and I just didn't think it was right to ask her to.

Yes! Ditto to what Bat said!

Don't force a particular heel height, but in group pictures, if everyone is in sandals or if everyone is in closed-toe, the picture (at least for the group shot) it flow better, But don't specify heel height.

If you don't, the one girl that chooses black closed toe pumps (when everyone is choosing strappy sandals), you will notice that girls shoes in your pictures. It may not matter to you, but want to point out that it will be noticeable.

My girls wore short fuschia dresses too and I had them wear silver strappy sandals.  I liked the variety because each girl wore shoes that fit their personality.  2 girls wore heels and 2 ended up in flats (one injured her toe the week of the wedding and one had an ankle injury so flats were more comfortable for them).  It's hard to find 1 pair of shoes that are comfortable for everyone.  I think it looked fine with the girls in different shoes.

I tried to get all my girls to wear the same shoes but they all couldn't find them in their size so they just opted for something that looked similar/the same from far away.

i wore a tea-length dress for a friends wedding, and she picked out the shoes were were wearing..... 3 things I hated about that:

    1.  the shoes were $75 and i had no choice but to purchase them (i know that might sound cheap or selfish, but i don't spend that kind of money on dress sandles)
    2.  my bff has a deformed toe, and is extremely self-conscience about it.  she wears peep toes or closed toe shoes/sandles/sneaks ALWAYS even in the summer.  she was forced to wear the shoes the bride picked out and was uncomfortable all night.
    3.  the shoes hurt and i had them off by cocktail hour... what a waste of $75!

I think that you should definitely dictate the color and the style, but leave it to them to choose what fits them best.

I'm sorry mocknine but I was hysterical after reading about the deformed toe!!!! yikes!

Thanks girls for all of the help though, I think I will definitely be letting them pick out their own black shoes.

My MOH (and only attendant) wore a very, very cute coral pink party dress from Bloomingdales (Aqua Department).  She wore copper Jimmy Choo sandals - they were wedges.  I tried to find some pictures but, I think they are not in season anymore.

It was really cute, she had gold jewelry on.
