Help! Nova bride considering a Vegas wedding

Hello,
I live in Northern Virginia and my FI and I are now considering a Vegas wedding. I have no idea what I am doing. We are thinking of inviting around 60 guests. Here are my questions:
1. I found a lot of weddings packages online for several hotels like MGM and Belagio that had details on ceremony/photography, etc., but where is anyone actually holding their reception? The restaurants in the hotels? If yes, is anyone having a dj/dancing?

2.The Griffin Mansion looked nice (expensive)...does anyone have any price estimates?

3. If anyone else is doing LV as a destination, can they let me know if they are paying anything towards their guests accomodations?

    Congrats and Welcome to the board.

    I would first check out the Vegas Knottie Sticky under "Wedding Porn" at the top of the page or in my signature to get some ideas as to where you could hold your wedding and reception based on what other brides have done or plan to do.

    To answer your questions from what we did:

    1) We were going to do a restaurant at first but we wanted to dance, you could look at restaurants with a private room, there you could have music/dj/dance. We ended up doing our reception in a suite, we had a dj and danced alot all night with

    2) Can't help on this one

    3) We didn't pay anything towards our guests accommodations, they paid their own way, one reason why we picked Vegas is not at costly to get to as many "DW" that are outside the country.

    1) It all depends on your budget. The casinos have ballrooms that can be rented. Many restraunts have private dining areas that can be used. People have done buffets (some also have private areas) In-suites are popular with smaller guest lists. I am having my wedding and reception slightly off strip at the Platinum Hotel. I was able to bring in my own vendors (except for food) and thereby being able to price-shop around

    2) I don't know anything about Griffin Mansion, besides it looks uber expensive. I do know that a few Knotties have used VRBO.com to rent out a large house/mansion for their weddings. A plus to this is that you get to bring your own vendors

    3) Guests are paying their own way. I have set up a room block at the Platinum for those interested in staying there. I have travel deals up on my wedding website and I have forwarded promos & deals on airfare and hotels to people that have asked me.
    Some brides do a meet&greet or a tour of the strip as an aditional thank you and welcome to their guests. Nice if you have the money, but not necessary if its not in your budget.

    A lot of the ladies here have (or will be using) Chapel of the Flowers.  They are reasonalby priced and have many packages to choose from (and I may be going with them myself).

    When I looked at Griffin Mansions and they sent me a quote it started at about $22,000 for 100 people. I can't remember what all was included in that price but to me was still wayyy too expensive since we're having about 150 guests.

    <div>We're having ours in a ballroom at Mandalay Bay, following our Valley of the Falls ceremony there.  We'll have the whole DJ/dancing shebang.  It's also a destination wedding for us (about 90 people) and we're not really paying for anyone's room.  Our parents are footing the hotel bill for certain close family members (our grandparents/siblings), but outside of that, every man for himself.  Don't worry-- your guests will be more than happy to foot their own bill and make a vacation out of it. ;)</div>

    Welcome to the board!

    1) We were married at Mandalay Bay and had our reception at one of the (now closed down) restaurants there.  Since we had a guest list of 25, we skipped the dancing/DJ thing.

    2) I have also heard that option is very expensive.

    3) I think it's understood that if you're invited to a destination wedding, you are responsible for your own accommodations.  Just as much as any guest who would be traveling for a wedding.

    PS: I've been living in Vegas for 10 years, but before that, I lived in Crystal City and Rosslyn.  Yay NoVA!

    3.)  Guests are paying their accomodations.  The only exception are two friends we wanted to be there who were strapped for cash so we offered to cover their hotel if it would make it possible for them to come.  Guests who really want to go will almost always find a way, especially if they have a year or so to save up.

    I paid for my MOH's hotel (Wynn) as my gift for her. Other than that I also forwarded hotel offers to everyone, which they took advantage of.

    1.) we are getting married at Mandalay bay. We are taking a party bus (2 actually) to maggianos. They are reasonable and it is for 4 hours! So we got a dj and everything. The dj we used was 250$ for 4 hours! I thought that was a great deal and many brides use him! 3.) we are paying for no one. My dad will pay for my sister I'm sure but other then that everyone for themselves!

    Wow, can I just say how awesome this board is? I've posted questions on the MD/DC boards and got nothing. Thank you all so much! Mandalay Bay sounds awesome but we were thinking of moving up our date to May 2012 and it sounds like it books way in advance. We will check into these suggestions. Impslave, I'm a VA Square/Ballston girl!!!

    you may get lucky depending on the day of the week and time of day you want. I was planning oct 2012 but then decided on may 2012 about 3 weeks ago and I got it booked no problem! I am getting married on a friday night but even still I have alot of choices to choose from. Give them a call and they will tell you have they have for whatever day you choose!

    i live in Alexandria...hooray for NoVa/Vegas brides :)  welcome!

    we did our ceremony at Caesars Palace and had our reception at Joe's Seafood in their Gigi room, which is totally private with your own bartender.

    there are ALOT of options in Vegas.  really consider the vibe you want and your budget,

    We're booked at Maggiano's in May, too, and you should see if they have availability on the day you want.  They're so fantastic to work with, just give them a call!  We booked the smallest room about 6 months ago, and just upgraded to the larger room 2 weeks ago.  I was shocked it was available.

    And ditto PP - we're not helping people with accommodations.  We are, however, letting people know of hotel/flight deals so they can hopefully save some money.

    My advice would be whatever you do, don't use Cashman Photography (monopoly) if you can help it.  They are the "Walmart" of photography.  Most places that use them as the in-house photographers will not let you bring in an outside photographer during the actual ceremony but allows them to shoot before/after around the property, so buy the cheapest package you can get from the "wedding package" and bring in a REAL photog to do the rest of the wedding.  Trust me, you will be supremely disappointed if you get the hack work that Cashman does and don't get real, amazing photography for your wedding.   I'll PM you a recommendation for a photography team that you'll love!
