WR: Bridal updates, please.

Where are our brides? What's new on the wedding planning front? Booked anything? Bought anything? Decided anything? I'm way curious.

For the non-brides: What is your favorite update to hear about? Shoes? Cake? Honeymoon destination?

I love seeing the flower inspirations and dresses.

  • I got nothing. There is too much even going on to think about or hope for that kind of thing anyways. :-)

Me too! I love hearing about cake. At BF's sister wedding in Vegas they had a carrot cake and it was the best piece of carrot cake I ever had.

    Anniversary

  • WR: My younger sister is pissing me off! I asked her and her daughter (my only niece/godchild) to be in our wedding. She was not thrilled and didn't even smile one bit when I asked and I basically felt like she just said yes because she is my sister. When I was showing her dresses for my niece she told me what she liked, but then went to my mom telling her she refuses to pay for the dress for her daughter and that it is the bride's job to pay for the flower girl's dress. She then told me she didn't have the money ($50), but then on black Friday her and her H went out and bought my niece (5) and her brother (2) each a Nabi (kids tablet) for $150 each. This dress doesn't need to be bought for a while and I was just looking at ideas and seeing what she thought.

Also, she has a custody case going on with my niece's dad where a guardian ad litem (attorney for kids) was appointed. Their initial retainer is $500 and she is now looking for a waiver since she spent $300 on her kids for Xmas and she "doesn't have the money" to pay for this attorney for her daughter.

She obviously has her priorities straight. Sorry vent over...

  • @Stina - That sucks. Hopefully she'll start acting rationally when your wedding is a little closer?

As for me, I LOVE to see people's menus, and dresses, of course :-)

    Still here and still fabulous!

  • Tomorrow is the appointment to look at/possibly go ahead and book our venue for ceremony and reception. Tyler has to work, so I'm going with my parents. Once we have the venue 100% reserved, I'll be confirming the photographer and we can start looking at when to do engagement pics!

Tyler and I have both already asked the majority of the wedding party. I know it's a little early, but we chose seriously long term friends. Tyler was chomping at the bit to ask his party, so we just went ahead and asked them.

I talked to my preferred caterer yesterday -- she owns a little takeout place near the house and has a celiac son, so her food is always very safe and I trust her. She's going to send me some previous menus she's prepared for other events so I can start thinking about what we'd like if we go with her.

Tomorrow, I'm asking my mom if I can use her veil, and if she's cool with that, I'm gonna go get it cleaned up and such so that I can have it when I start looking for a dress.

We also asked that parents start their lists of who they'd like to invite. I'm hoping to have a guest list by the end of the year so we can get save the dates ordered to send around March -- these are mostly for my family, as my dad's entire side lives in California.

  • Hello!

I think I posted my updates in random threads here and there but...

As you guys know my wedding dress came in and the shoes I had gotten to wear:
are too tall so I'm on the hunt for new ones. They have to be like 1.5" or less and I'm not really a fan of kitten heels so I'm probably going with flats. I ordered these:

    and these:

but I really want to find these:

in my size because they're only $50.

My BMs ordered their dresses last weekend. 3 of them chose dresses at Alfred Angelo:

And 2 of them went with the same dress from DB:

    Everyone is happy! WOOT!

I think I also mentioned we got our wedding bands a couple weeks ago? If not here they are:

I have no cake or menu stuff to share because we haven't had to do any of that stuff yet Undecided

  • nooooooooooo TK is being flukey for me. Wah.

    Cake picture!:

The bottom two tiers were lemon cake with raspberry filling and the top is something different. I think chocolate filling in almond cake or something. (We haven't eaten that part yet, we are a couple months behind.)
  • I don't think we have made any new decisions lately, but there is probably some stuff to AW.

We booked our photographer awhile ago: http://www.ejphotos.com/

We've been meeting with a couple of caterers. I'm still waiting to hear back from a few, but it looks like we might be able to afford our first choice caterer. If we go with them, dinner will probably look something like this

Green salad with ranch or balsamic dressing
    Fresh baked bread
Macaroni and Cheese (so freakin good!)
Roasted vegetables (eggplant, peppers, olives, artichokes, asparagus, tomatoes) served with roasted red pepper sauce and hummus
    Roast Chicken
    Herb roasted potatoes

I hope we decide to go with this place. Everything is sourced locally and made fresh in house. So homemade dressings, fresh bread from the bakery the company runs, free range chicken, etc.

I have some pictures of the gifts I made for my bridesmaids, but I don't have them with me. I will AW them later.

Here is what we are considering for flowers

Sorry no dress photos yet. Hoping to start shopping sometime in December!

We're also doing hard mode by at the same time attempting to make it so the Christian pastor doing the ceremony doesn't notice.

Ugh! I haaated when someone I was so excited to involve was less than appreciative. I just had to tell myself that no one is as excited for our wedding as we were--over and over. Though some other people did seem as excited and so I made sure to let them know I appreciated their enthusiasm.

We're excited for you! Pics of the dress?
  • I've got a whole lot of nothing. Well... I was really upset right before turkey day because bf might have asked my dad for his blessing and he might have said no. Story: Bf and my dad went hunting and when they came back bf was really upset. When I asked what was up he first fronted that it was because they didn't get anything. No big deal. Later he was still really upset so he told me he'd had a serious talk with my dad and that things hadn't turned out like he'd expected. Idk I might just be going crazy but with all the wedding/mariage talk bf has been doing latly I'm guess that's what the "serious talk" was about. I was getting really excited but now it looks like we're still a ways away from getting engaged.
I'm daddies little girl and love my father to death so his blessing is extremely important to me.
    Vent done.

My favorite parts are seeing the ceremony and reception spaces (before or after decorations). The cake comes second. Oh and the colors/theme!

  • Stina: I'm sorry your little sister wasn't more excited to be in your bridal party! Hopefully she'll be more excited as it gets closer. And hopefully she'll get her priorities straightened out soon.

RDR: I know nothing about dress ordering, but, when you ordered your dress did they not ask how tall of shoes you were planning to wear so that they could order an appropriate length dress? I'm kind of tall (5'8") and I assume I will be wearing 3-4" heels. I'd hate to think that dress length is a one size fits all sort of thing. Also can you remind me what your e-ring looks like so I can picture it next to your wedding band?

My dress has the illusion of layers at the bottom. • We're also trying to think of a nickname for our wedding. Tyler thinks it needs to be a pun (as he thinks everything should be a pun). Our friend Zola has offered up 'Wedding You Like to Know' followed by a dirty look and 'Weddingleberries'.

We are heartily considering having the wedding party wear sombreros. This was actually the idea of one of the groomswomen and has been rapidly embraced by the others in the wedding party.

  • ha ha a wedding party with sombreros awesome!

  • Hi girls, great idea, love looking at ideas. Here are some of mine:

Our date is June 15, 2013.

This is my dress. I was actually just thinking that a bra will be a challenge as it is cut very low in the back. Hmm.

    Floral inspiration.

Here's a link to our venue, we're getting married outside by the lake, weather permitting.

Seeing how little I actually have done is making me a little nervous. This thread may be the kick in the pants I need to start doing some more planning. I'm also fully ready to admit that I'll likely not do another stitch of planning until after the holidays. Oh well.
