Should I ask if the gift was received? (not completely E-related)

DH and I were invited to an end-of-June wedding that we could not attend as it was out-of-town and a Friday afternoon wedding.  We sent back our RSVP card declining and purchased a gift through the couple's BBB registry (shipped directly to them)  in mid-May.  I received confirmation from BBB/the USPS that the gift was delivered to the couple's city, but I was not able to track the package direclty beyond that.  It could very well have been delivered to the couple's doorstep, but I'm not sure.  Is it too soon to follow-up (probably via Facebook) and make sure our gift actually reached them?

  • It's August now. I would ask if they recieved your gift.
  • I think you're definitely justified in checking in with them. I'd just say exactly what you told us--you were unable to get confirmation that the gift had made it directly to them, so you wanted to make sure they actually received it.

Hey, maybe it was their thank you note that got lost in the mail rather than the gift. ;)

  • Thanks!  I will send a quick note and ask.  I just didn't want to put pressure on them or appear that I was fishing for a response.

  • Please do!

As someone recently married, I can tell you things do get delivered to the wrong address, lost in UPS or USPS black holes, packages get stolen, and things sometimes just get lost or overlooked in general.  Several of those things happened to us.  We even received a RSVP card yesterday that was postmarked March 15th, our wedding was in April.  Eh post office?

Long story short, I would be so relieved if someone followed up with me about a gift, not irritated or pressured at all.  I think it's all in the way you word it.

Good luck!  Hopefully it was received and the thank you note is already in the mail.  :)
