How often do you lose power?

I swear it seems like every couple of months we lose power.  Every time the flush the fire hydrants we can't use water.  We've had at least 5 times we've had water main breaks and been without.  I can't wait to get to civilization.

The power is out right now for no apparent reason.

Re: How often do you lose power?

  • We haven't lost power in the last 6 months.  It was before DD2 was born and it was because of a nasty storm.

  • not very often. it usually takes a really strong electrical storm. maybe 4-6 times in the year and a half we've lived in TX.
  • The real pisser is the generating station is literally 5 miles from here and we never seem to lose power for storms.  Naptime is when I catch up on shows and my computer battery is going to die soon.  Bastards.

  • A couple/four times a year. Always on nice, sunny days - never due to weather. Not yet, anyway - she says, as she surveys the foot-plus of snow outside, while it's still coming down.

I think in 12 years in PHX we only lost power like 3 times. The first time I still lived at home, and I goggled at my father getting water out of the tap during the outage. 17 years of well water made that amazing.

  • It seems it is during windy ice storms, so MAYBE 1 time a year.  And less than 8 hours at that.

  • At this house, never. Honestly I don't remember ever not having power while living in AZ.
  • We've only had one real outage (like more than an hour) in the past 4 years since living here and it was water, phone and power all at the same time and it sucked.  We packed up the animals and went to St. Louis for the rest of the week while all of our plants froze to death.  I think we have been fortunate because we live within a few blocks of the power company, the hospital and the university.

  • We have only really had one real outage at this house and it was because a tree fell on the transformer. Brown outs are much more common and happen at least a few times a month during the stormy season.

  • We've had a transformer blow out in a rain storm and then the whole county lost pawer last year. That was fun.
  • Twice a year...maybe.  And we always seem to lose power on perfectly sunny days with not a cloud in the sky.   We never lose power during storms or anything.
  • I grew up in one of the C-bus suburbs and we used to have it happen every couple of weeks, usually not for very long and usually at night, but we had to start making sure there was batteries in all of our alarm clocks. I blamed it on the construction, but sounds like we just have shitty power in Columbus. On the plus side, I lived overseas and we had twice daily scheduled blackouts, plus at least one a day that wasn't scheduled...
