Not Engaged Yet

Is it supposed to be this easy?

I had pretty much everything set and planned within a month of being engaged. All that I have left is BM dresses, tuxes and an officiant. Everything else is done. I feel like maybe I am missing out on something because this wedding planning came way to easy as compared to what I was expecting.

I have to admit it is very nice to have everything figured out with no stress, but now what do I do for the next 8 months??

    Yes, it is.  :)  Congratulations.

You enjoy life as it is.  Wedding planning should not take over your life.  If you want, this does give you time to complete DIY projects.

I did the same thing. Everything was done in two months. Now, I'm 5 months out and I have another wave of stuff to do... but the decisions are done. I just need to make some payments, and we have engagement pics coming up, and makeup trials, and bridals soon after.

It's busy from now until June, but not difficult.

I know wedding planning shouldn't take over your life. I just love to have stuff to do to keep me busy. I'm not huge into the whole sit around an relax thing. I thought planning a wedding would keep me pretty well occupied. I guess I need to find a new hobby now!

I don't really have much for DIY projects. The favors and that is about it. I'm not too crafty and would be scared if I had too much DIY it would look like a kindergarten class made it.

Ana & KD -- Sure I would love to plan your weddings! I think I may end up helping a few friends down the road. I have a few gf's that want nothing to do with planning a wedding.

How much do you charge for wedding planning services and when can you come to Central NY? Hehe

I wouldn't need to charge! I would just have fun doing it, plus it would be fun to explore an area I know nothing about. I've never been to central NY before. Also, there's just something about being able to spend someone else's money :)

Wow, I'm a little jealous! Our wedding is in 6 months, and I have no dress, no wedding party, no nothing -- I just booked the venue yesterday! I mean, I've done some research, and I have ideas and all...but nothing other than the venue is set in stone yet.

Can I ask what everyone is doing for favors? Where did you get your invites?

I purchased my invites at Michaels. They are fairly simple. IMO they just get thrown away anyway so I didn't want to throw a bunch of money into invites. I had a few 50% off coupons so I got them for $60!

All the money for my wedding is going to the venue. Oh the price you pay to have your wedding at an awesome location!

For my favors I will be doing dipped pretzel sticks in chocolate then rolled in candy and put in pretzel bags with a pretty bow.

MMmm, you're making me hungry, loopy! I want some of those pretzels!!

I think food type favors are good, but I'm scared to do anything with chocolate in Arizona in July.

I will definitely be taking a trip to Michaels to look around very very soon, thanks! :)

The bulk of mine was planned in a month, it's not abnormal.  Although now I wish we were getting married in February, because waiting til August kind of makes me irritated.  Like I *thought* it would take a lot longer, so I planned for all this time to use, and then didn't need it.  I have a lot of DIY though, so hopefully that'll help pass some of the time.

Invitations are DIY (Pics and directions in bio)

Favors we're still debating on, but we both like the idea of making our own crackers (British tradition that FI's family does every year for Christmas) and filling them with candy or something.

I loved planning as well.  I could definitely do wedding planning as a 'job.'  (DH and I talk about retiring to our own vineyard because we will need to be active in some way.  Then, I would be able to do weddings from time to time.)  Luckily, I am helping to plan my MOH's wedding now.

Like Acro, I diy-ed the invites.  I loved having complete control over them, even if they drove me crazy by the end.  Plus hearing the guests rave over them didn't hurt.
Our favors were narcissus bulbs.  When packaged up, they also served as our escort cards.  Our wedding was right before people plant bulbs in this area, so the women thought they were the best favors ever.

I haven't gotten my invites yet, but I have some picked out at http://www.weddingpaperdivas.com that I like. I am going to go to Michael's before I order and see if there's anything I like better for cheaper.

We're doing sandalwood fans for favors. That would be PERFECT in Arizona as well. We're getting married in June, in Louisiana, so my mom wanted something to help guests beat the heat. We'll be tying on colorful ribbon and little tags that say something.... like.... "Thanks" or whatever.

Jeana -- are you having the fans on people's seats for the ceremony? or...??

For those who DIY'ed invites -- I'd like to be able to print multiple invites/RSVPs on cardstock and then cut and mount to the enclosure. I'd also like to do a mail merge so I can import my address from Excel into Word and then print on the outer envelopes. Does this work, in your experience?

I'm so thankful for helpful knotties. :)

I know absolutely NOTHING about mail merge, but all my templates have multiple invitations/enclosures/rsvp's on one sheet of 8.5x11 cardstock.  It's 2 invitations on 1 sheet, 4 RSVP's on another sheet, and then the four other enclosures on a final sheet.  I cut them and mounted the invitation to my pocketfold and stuck the enclosures and the RSVP card in the pocket itself.  I think it worked out really well for me, and the templates are available for download in my bio if you want to re-work them with your info.  :-)

If you don't want to make the pocketfold yourself, http://www.cardsandpockets.com sells them, and the one that everything I have is sized for is the "Signature" style I believe.

We're going to put the fans in a basket (or two?) at the entrance to the ceremony. You know, tie a nice purple bow on the basket....

I mean, I figure the men won't really want a girly fan, so I wouldn't put them on the seats.
