needing help with gift registering

Hello,

I need a little help from you ladies.

I think I am a little bit late with the wedding planning.  Fiance says that I am exaggerating. Lol!

Anyway…  We became engaged on November 2010, our wedding will be on October 2011. We have 5 months to go.

I thought that I had to send invitations first to then gift register somewhere and have a shower.  But today, reading previous postings, I learned that invitations are normally sent 2 months before the wedding.

Now I got nervous! Are we late with gift registering? When should we register?  As soon as possible? How long before the wedding are should the shower be? Do you think we will have any troubles because we are 5 months away from our wedding?

Thank you in advance, Stefani.

I would register now, but let your bridesmaids/mom/whoever decide when the shower will be (if they're deciding to throw one ... it's not required to have a shower) ... don't plan any part of it yourself. If the hostess wants suggestions for suitable dates then she'll ask you.

Send out the invites about two months before the wedding, but don't include the registry information in your wedding invites.

Don't stress, you still have time!  Our wedding is just a month after yours and we haven't registered yet, we plan to do so this month.  Definitely start thinking about that.  As for the shower, I know that my mom and MOH are planning my shower for August.  Do you know who is planning your shower?  They may be trying to surprise you.  There's really no "right" answer about when a shower should take place - a girl on my month board just had hers, because her OOT family were coming to visit and it was convenient timing.

If someone is going to throw you a shower, just make sure you register (if you want to) before the shower.
The wedding invites should go out about 2 months before the wedding and as PP said, don't include the registry info with your wedding invites.

We only registered as early as we did because a lot of FIL's friends wanted to buy us engagement gifts.  I'm another October bride and my shower is in August.  We're going to finish up our registry by the end of June because my shower is in August.

We just registered a couple months ago since my shower is coming up. It's a surprise so I'm not sure when it is, but my guess is it is sometime next month. Like PPs said, just register soon so it's done for when your shower invites go out.

Don't worry! We registered in Feb for our wedding on Sept 9. A lot of people asked when we were going to register because they wanted to get us engagement gifts. But since we registered we got only 3! Lol What I learned is that registering takes time. If you do it now then you won't have to worry as the wedding gets closer and can focus on other things. Best of luck!

We didn't register until 3 months before our wedding, it was not something I was looking forward to, so I put it off.  I will say though, that the upside to registering so close to the wedding (well really the shower) was that our stuff wasn't discountiued, which does happened a lot. I think you are fine to register now.

I agree about not stressing!!!  You should register sooner than later however and before your shower!   I actually felt totally overwhelmed by registering, I went to the store and they handed me the gun and I just started tagging things...THEN I went home and changed everything :-)  It was so much easier to do online than in the store.
