Marriage License - went today

So we just came from town hall. The app took all of 5 minutes, since we filled out the forms beforehand. She asked us to confirm the info, spelled our names, asked our witness some Qs, and that was it!

Completing the form prior was helpful, since there were some Qs we had to research, like the address of our officiant and the Municipality of where we are getting married (Palace brides, if you are getting married there, it is Somerset, NJ-Franklin Township).

She also said not to wait until the week of the wedding to pick it up, in case there are any spelling errors that need to be corrected.

So we are one step closer! Both our moms were really excited and it was contagious!

Yayy! I am going for mine tomorrow! We are getting married in New York and I can't seem to find a form to fill out ahead of time. Wish I could!

    Congrats!

Quick question, though... is your ticker correct?  I thought marriage licenses in Jersey are only valid for 30 days.

This. Yes, I think she said you can apply 6 months prior to your wedding, then it is good for 30 days from when you pick it up. There is a 72 hour waiting period after you apply. We wanted to check it off the list and coordinating schedules was challenging.

Please, please check the carbon copies when you pick it up.  We live in Bloomfield, and they still use a typewriter to fill out the license.  So, the top copy was correct, but I didn't bother to check the carbon copies.  So, while it looked OK, the middle and bottom copies were not (when they fixed in error on the typewriter it corrected the first copy but the carbon copies showed the original letter and then the corrected letter that had been typed over the original).  Of course I didn't realize this until I got our marriage certificate, and the township we got married in used the middle copy.  Anyway, it got corrected, but just double check the carbon copies when you pick it up to save yourself any potential headaches!

(And Bloomfield claims that most towns know to copy the first page and use that instead of relying on the carbon copies but of course the town we got married in did not do that!).
