Do I need a cake topper?

I think the ones with a bride and groom are kind of old school and I don't really want to do the letter of our last name...  Do I really need one?

No.  You might do flowers or something depending on the style of your cake if you felt it needed something, though.

You definitely don't need a cake topper.  We aren't having a wedding cake, but we will have two regular cakes on our dessert buffet, and I found cake topper banners on Etsy that I like a lot (link to the shop if you're interested).  We are getting one with our names and one that says "Love is sweet."  I think it makes it feel a bit more festive, especially since we're not having a traditional tiered cake.

ETA: If you go to the link, the artist has ones with a bride and groom cutout under the banner, but we are ordering just the banner.

I didn't care for any cake-toppers I came across and just went with flowers instead and was very happy with how it turned out.  Those flowers that look purple were actually blue in real life...

We are just doing flowers! We haven't decided if they'll be real or sugar but we aren't going the topper route.

Nope you don't need one..why put something on your cake that you don't like :)

I wasn't going to do one either but I accidentally found one I loved that went with our "theme" of bling and it was on clearance so it was perfect!

    Nope. Totally optional.

I can't stand them personally. They all look sloppy and detract from the cake to me, so... I'm not going with one either.

You don't need one if you don't want one. I don't think anyone would even notice. Lots of couples don't have a weddingtopper.
I myself, wasn't planning on having one because those bride and groom statues all seemed so stiff and dull while my Fi and I wanted a relaxed, fun-loving wedding.
In the end I did stumble upon one that fitted our style.
But if it's really not for you, then just don't have one!
