[QUOTE]antibride: do you always share stories about your patients and their families going through extremely stressful times for the amusement of the Internet? Is that really what you're paid for? Health stuff is rough, it's not your place as a professional support person to shame or share.

You know, because health professionals aren't allowed to be human or anything and talk about thier jobs like everyone else.  Nope, just pile extreme loads of stress onto them, expect 110% perfect job performance, and tell them to shoosh themselves at all times.  That sounds totes reasonable.

If you are not in the health care field, I don't think you should get to judge how they vent.  I am only a STUDENT NURSE and there are days I have to have a "darker" sense of humor so that I don't take things home with me.  FI is a firefighter, he helps scrape people off of highways, he also has to have a "darker" sense of humor.  If we did not know how to dissociate ourselves from our professional lives it would create havoc and it's unhealthy.  We have a class all about how to dissociate.

Now, would I have posted on the internet, probably not, but I am a student and so afraid of a HIPAA violation I wouldn't dream of it and I try to share my "darker" humor with FI or someone else in healthcare that would understand it.  I don't think it is your place to judge how Antibride decompresses because you have never been anywhere near her shoes.

[QUOTE]This isn't a dark sense of humor. This is mean. Mocking a bride on TheKnot of all places isn't exactly discrete. I have a family member awaiting a transplant, and the worry I express out loud most often is this ruining my birthday plans. Not because I'm selfish, but because voicing my fears about her dying is just too rough for me. I don't think it's too much to ask that people who get information in a confidential setting treat it with some respect.

And I'm gonna throw this one out to represent team solid tumor: <a href="http://www.cancer.org/research/researchprogramsfunding/epidemiology-cancerpreventionstudies/cancerpreventionstudy-3/index" rel="nofollow">http://www.cancer.org/research/researchprogramsfunding/epidemiology-cancerpreventionstudies/cancerpreventionstudy-3/index</a>

I'm not old enough, but if any of you ladies are over the age of 30 and are willing to give some blood and follow up to help with cancer research, it would be really cool. This is Study 3, and to give you an idea of what it does, Study 1 found the correlation between tobacco and lung cancer, so it's pretty informative and important to research and development.

  • I'm surprised that no one else feels antibride's post was inappropriate, but obviously I am the only one who does, and therefore owe her an apology. Sorry, antibride, I've let what is clearly a narrow and personal view of the situation influence my judgment. I'll be reflecting on everyone's comments re: the need for venting and hope we can all focus on compassion, for providers, patients, and families.

That is why they email/call/write to you yearly to make sure that it is still something your interested in. That way if you do get a match you already are completely aware of the process including how involved it is, that it is a medical procedure you have to go under anesthesia for, etc. No one wants to hear they have a life-saving match only to find out the person didn't know how invasive the process was, and back out.</div><div>

YOUR CORGI IS HUGE. Or at least his ears are. Our Corgi weighs less than 15 pounds. Malnutrition in puppyhood's a hell of a munchkin-maker.

And yeah, it's definitely a commitment, but the good thing is that they're able to take cells peripherally now too. Neupogen sucks when it comes to bone pain and the needles they use to extract parts of your blood and return the rest are pretty awful too (speaking from the experience of platelet donation), but it's totally worth it to save someone's life. I love reading the stories of the closeness of donors and recipients post-donation :3.

<div>Ein weighed in at 30 pounds yesterday. His mom was really small, I thought he'd turn out that way. His ears are gigantic. They're so tall that when he runs the top HALF of them flop over each step. He's a dense little brute.</div><div>

Freya was kept in a cage at a puppy mill until she was eight months old, so she got kinda stunted. She's actually almost doubled in weight since we adopted her :D.

But yeah, people who don't have cancer should try to make a point of participating in treatment options for those afflicted or be willing to participate in studies put on by the ACS. Cancer is like... super lame. Things need to be done about it.

<div>Holypoop she is adorable. I'm so glad you saved her! I had a tough time with Ein, too, because he had lived entirely outside for the first 10 weeks of his life. Everything inside scared him.
