  • I think that "invite you to share in the joy of the marriage uniting their children" sounds a little odd, but that's because I'm a fan of traditional wording.  There's a few other changes I would make as well. I would do:

    Mr. and Mrs. Bridesparents
    Mr. and Mrs. Groomsparents
request the pleasure of your company
at the marriage uniting their children
    BRIDE
    and
    GROOM
    Saturday, the twentieth of July
    two thousand thirteen
    half after three o'clock

    The Smith Residence
    123 Anywhere Street
    Town, State

    Reception to follow

  • I prefer traditional wording too.

Traditionally, emphasizing the "joy" or "the beginning of their new life together" or any other departure from the traditional wording meant that there was something wrong, like an unplanned pregnancy.

Also, built into the traditional wording is the idea that this is a joyful occasion uniting two people who are about to begin their new life together, so adding more is redundant.
