Re: nm

  • Not sure what the black sleeves are, not a fan. But that dress makes your waist look impossibly small. I think it looks good.

  • The dress looks very stunning on you, it compliments your waist.  Just from what I can see - not sure why you would want to cover your arms.  Again the material, dress etc looks very lovely on you.  Good LuckSmile

She most likely has to cover her arms for religious reasons.

I think the dress looks wonderful on you.  It really defines your waist and sweetheart necklines make everyone look good.

I am assuming you are going to be wearing a white shrug or jacket correct?  If so, I would do it in a sheer material.  You don't want to do anything heavy looking because the bottom of your dress is so light and airy looking.

  • I love the dress, it flatters you very well... The jacket style goes with it well also

</div><div>We were thinking about doing the black jacket because all the white ones looked weird with the dress. However, if I get this dress, I was going to shop around for other jacket options, like maybe a fur shrug? I like the black jacket, but no one else does. I'm not sure it goes with the dress either.</div><div>

  • Love the dress and it looks wonderful on you, but I agree lose the black shrug.

I'm sure you can find something else that better compliments the dress.

  • It looks great on you.
  • Another vote for losing the black jacket.  If you don't want white, maybe something in a complimenting color to your BMs?    I saw that dress when I went to try on dresses, and I hated it on the hanger.  I wouldn't even try it on.  I felt like I would look like a bird. But, it actually really looks good on you !

[QUOTE]I just posted this and it appears to have vanished, so my apologies if I post twice. Anyways, I need (brutally honest opinions of this dress on me): I have to cover my arms, so the jacket won't be removed. Is the dress flattering? the jacket? does the material look cheap? anything?

  • In theory I would prefer a white one, but that white one doesn't do a whole lot for me.

Of the three, I'm kind of digging the pink jacket with that belt thing. It looks like you are supposed to be wearing it, rather than just unexpectedly got cold and had to grab a cardigan, kwim?

  • I like the pink jacket and belt.  You could probably get the white one altered to fix the gap, if you like that one.  I would also consider a sheer material.  Something with the same fabric as the bottom of the dress?

I like the black jacket.  I think it looks very sophisticated.  I don't care for the red one - too bright.
  • I would like the black shrug better if you added a black belt and black accessories to tie it all together (kind of like what you did with the pink shrug).  By itself, the black jacket looks a little strange but if you added a black belt and maybe a black hairpiece it would look like it belongs.

  • I do like the black shrug better with the black belt... but, I still like the pink, or the idea of getting a sheer one better.

The other thing... if you love the dress, just buy it, and keep looking for shrug/belt options later.  I'm assuming you are at David's Bridal.  there are a million places to get the shrug/belts later... you don't have to limiit yourself to what they have there.

The white one is my least favorite. Between the black and pink, I like the black shrug with the black belt.

But really, it depends what kind of wedding you're having. Is the wedding going to lean more sophisticated with deep, dark colors? Or light and airy with pinks?

And your dress is perfect for you! Stunning!

  • I like the pink shrug with the pink belt. It's bright and fun, which I think matches the fun skirt on your dress.

    Life is good today.
  • OP, yes exactly like that.  I think if you coordinated some jewelry that had some black in it as well and/or a headpiece with black then it would all look very nice.

As a PP said, what are your wedding colors and are you going for a more fun wedding or a more formal wedding?  If you were going for a fun/bright affair I would go with the pink...more formal go with the black.

But like others have said, don't limit yourself to just DB for shrugs and belts.

But, IMO, I love the look of white wedding dresses mixed with touches of black.

  • LOVE the dress on you...the waist line is amazing and it fits well up top as well. I don't like any of the shrugs however.

Try a google search for either white sheer shrugs or lace shrugs......this one popped up and almost looks like it was meant to coordinate with your dress.......

ETA:  Depending on your budget, is it possible the dress maker could make one to coordinate?  My daughter had some flowers on her dress, and the designer was able to replicate the flower in a smaller version for a hair fascinator.

<div>I'm not sure if it's formal or fun...probably fun. It's a Valentine's wedding, so we were thinking black and light pink for colors.</div><div>
</div><div>And I know I'm not limited to just David's Bridal for shrugs/jackets but if I'm going to buy the dress, I want to buy it with a jacket that I know will work in case I don't find a better one. I'm still going to look for options, but I wanted a good back up, if that makes sense?</div>
  • I noticed that you're in DFW.  I am, too and I went to Elizabeth's Bridal in Hurst.  They are the sweetest and their prices are lower than the online "guaranteed lowest price."  Since you're not totally sold on the whole thing, I recommend checking out what they have and seeing what advice they might have.

Hmm, never thought of a dress maker! I'll have to see if I can find one.
  • I like the pink with the belt the best because it is so bright and fun, but the black with the belt looks great too. I agree with Maggie that if you are going for more formal the black would fit better and pink would fit better if you are going for fun. If you are not completly sold on it though I would recommend shopping around a bit before commiting to one of these.

  • I like white best....the dress is sooo gorgeous on you I feel like a black or colored jacket take a bit away from the dress. I do like the more fitted style of the black/pink jackets though! And I love PP's idea of something sheer, finding a dressmaker is a great idea!
    Wedding Countdown Ticker
  • I tried that dress on too and loved it! I just decided to go with a more form fitting dress. But this one looks fantastic on you! I'm not a huge fan of the hot pink jacket and belt. It's just too much color for me. I dont like a lot of color on wedding dresses, but that's just my opinion. If you like it, do it. I think out of the 3, I would prefer the black with the belt.
As the last PP stated, I think a blush pink would look amazing with it too.

Could you possibly have sleeves added to the dress? I think a lighter more sheer sleeve could look really pretty (think the white shrug without the back and just sheer short sleeves added). That's what I did with my dress and I loved the look (below). The man who altered it just ordered extra lace from the manufacturer and made the sleeves custom to my liking. With yours it seems like it would be even easier since there's no lace to coordinate.

  • The white jacket looks the best. I would go with that one.
  • I think the white jacket fits the dress best.  Everything else just looked like you were trying to dress it down or make it more casual, and I'm not sure why you'd want to do that with such a stunning dress.  See about either having the white jacket you already found altered, or perhaps finding a dressmaker who can make a jacket to match from scratch.
