Re: Rant & Rave Friday!

  • Rant: WHY ARE MEDS SO EXPENSIVE?! I just paid $101 for a 3 month supply to cover me when I get kicked off my mom's insurance in January. I was denied health insurance by the Washington state questionnaire thing so now I have to get the health pool insurance and I'm not sure what my co pay will be for that, from what I can tell it's going to be $50-$100/month. Grrrrr. (Generics don't work for me and Canadian meds aren't much cheaper seeing as they have to be name brand) I keep telling myself "It could be worse, you could have to pay the full $511 or $250 like you thought you were going to have to." But it's hard to wrap my head around dropping that much money a month. :/

Rave: I get today and Monday off, paid (we don't get vacation time so this is a rare treat) plus 2 of the doctors gave me a bonus and the other employees gave me gift cards so I won't have to pay for lunches for a while! Also Christmas is coming!! :)

  • KimzyLynn- I have an idea, not sure your financial situation but I am Clinical Social Worker at a hospital so I have to help people get meds at reduced prices all the time. Lots of drug companies have programs to help people afford their medication. Check out the website www.rxassist.org and then search for the meds you are on. Also you can look up the different meds pharmaceutical websites and they may have additional programs.
Also if your doctor's office has a social worker I would recommend talking to them, every city normally has a free pharmacy. You could also contact the hospital your physician is affiliated with to see if they have any prescription programs. In my experience if a hospital knows that a medication will prevent an admission they will often times help you out, especially if you don't have much income or have no insurance.
