Sandals Resorts

Hi! My sister in law is getting married at the Sandals Montego Bay in March 2011 and I am looking for reviews. The good the bad and the ugly so please be as open and honest as you can about the wedding & reception portions. I have been looking and see they have alot of fees for extras; can you give me any heads up on how to help them cut costs and if some of the stuff is even worth it?

TIA!
Amy

Thank you for thinking of my Ashley =) We got married at Sandals Negril last year and absolutely loved it! I have a full review in my married bio (link is in my siggy), with pics, info etc. Feel free to ask any questions or e-mail me at LSteller@fuse.net

  • I am also a Sandals Negril bride.  I also did not pay for any extras and anything that we took for the ceremony, we set up ourselves.  One thing that your sister may want to know in advance is that a lot of actual planning doesn't seem fall into place until the onsite visit with the Sandals WC.  The stateside "WC"s seem not so helpful and really seem to want couples to pay for many extras before they go.  This is not a must as any arrangements can be made upon arrival when the couple meets with the onsite WC.  And then it's all smooth-sailing and laid-back and just awesome!

Another helpful tidbit...regardless if they get a photo package in advance or not, a Sandals photog will be at the ceremony.  The photog will also get any "must take" photos and couple photos around the property after the ceremony.  They can pick and choose what pics they want the day after their ceremony.  We did end up buying a small package when we viewed the photos (they'll be given a date/ time to go to the Sandals photoshop to view them all).

If she wants more info there is also a Sandals Weddings group on Facebook.  A lot of info, pics, etc can be found there for all of the resort locations.  The weddings packages just got a "facelift" and there is some good info on there.

    She's going to love it!!!!
  • I'm sure everyone has a different experience but honestly I was not as impressed with Sandals as I expected. The wedding part was amazing and perfect, but the accomidations and people were not the quality that I've had before at other resorts in Jamaica.
  • I will be getting married at Sandals Grande Ocho Rios in December.  It seems like the resort has come a long way since when it first started.  I can tell you that the actual wedding planning has been completely stress free.  I have had to do hardly anything.  We are not going to buy any extras except we will do a sand ceremony and have some decorations/fans set up for the ceremony itself.  The total cost for set up etc will be $250.  We are not doing a private reception either as we see it being silly (and so do our guests) to spend an extra 2 grand when all of us have already spent thousands.  My biggest piece of advice I can give you would be to find a sandals preferred specialist to help.  She can organize the entire thing for you and your guests and it costs no extra since Sandals pays them.  I have a great one Jody Barbato @ Honeymoon Specialists if you would like her info.  Also, on facebook there is a sandalsweddingmoon page.  A lot of great info for her.  Sorry this has been so long but I hope it helps!
