Question about Vista Suite

Hello, I have the Vista Suite booked for my 9/26/13 reception. We have also arranged Masterpiece cuisine for catering. I have read that some people have rented banquet tables and extra seating. I have around 45 people attending. Can anyone that has been in the suite before tell me whether I would need this or not? I have taken the virtual tour, but its just not the same as being there. :) Thanks so much!

Re: Question about Vista Suite

  • Seating can definitely be an issue with that number; i.e. you won't have nearly enough seating spots for everyone.  If you're doing heavy apps then you may be okay without additional tables since people can hold their plate, but if you're talking about a full meal or food that needs to be cut, tables would be a good idea because there's not enough room to set a plate down and use a knife and fork to cut something.

  • I have the Vista Suite booked for my 10/19/13 reception! I have roughly the same number of guests as well as DJ in the suite and Masterpiece Catering apps. I decided to rent 3 high top tables, 1 banquet table and some extra folding chairs. I read alot of feedback on TK and found that it really came in handy and it is also fairly inexpensive especially if you p/u yourself. What else are you doing for the reception? Any other vendors? Just curious, it is coming up sooo soon!!

  • Thanks vegasgroom and liljennygirl. liljennygirl, the only other vendors I have is Retro Bakery for the cupcakes. I'm kind of trying to keep it really simple, but now as it gets closer I'm having second thoughts. lol Who did you get the banquet tables and such from? I think I will call and get something in place for that.
  • Awesome thank you vegasgroom, I just sent them an email! :)
  • Yes, I am using RSVP. They have a great website too, as you probably know. You can rent pretty much anything! We are also using Retro...what are you ordering? We are just planning to do mini cupcakes I think, just not sure how many.
Canadian Bride getting married at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas on October 19th, 2013
  • We have an order for, I think, 12 dozen. I wanted it to be roughly three per person. I hope thats enough. I originaly wanted pick your poison, because of their alcholol flavors, but they moved to Austin...?  Recently I found Sin City cupcakes that have alcohol flavors, and I kind of want to switch, but it would be a bit more expensive. I think Retro was $220, and Sin City would be $300 ish.

What else did you do for your reception? Are you getting a bartender or lighting?

  • For the reception we are having All Night Long for DJ, Masterpiece is catering heavy apps (we are doing 6) as well as we are doing beer/wine and bartender through them. I recently added on Culinary Pros for some day of coordination services, they are really cheap. I hope they are good as they have minimal reviews as far as coordination.

I am kind of stuck on decor etc. We are flying from British Columbia, Canada so I am trying to go light on centerpieces. I have some cylindrical vases for the high top tables and then put some silk hydrangea in them with floating candle on top...something like that lol. Still a work in progress. We are doing a vinyl record in a shadowbox for a guest book. And I have made up some hangover kits as favors (i have posted in another thread some pics of those)

That's it, no lighting. I am starting to freak out a bit to be honest.

  • Lol me too! I have 97 days, what? Yeah I am getting there a several days early and renting a car so I can run around and get decorations there in Vegas for the suite. But the hangover kits sound like a great idea! Plus my soon to be MIL is an interior designer and I told her it was her job to decorate the suite. lol She'll go after it I'm sure, because that's her forte. lol

Did you get the suite for multiple days? I only got it for one night, but now I'm totally doubting myself that it will be enough.

  • Yes we got the suite for two nights Friday and Saturday, wedding on the Sat. I figured I wanted to have it as sometimes you can't check in until 3 and our ceremony is at 3:00 so that won't work.

That's a good idea for the decorations, at the moment I have several things I am shipping to my co-ordinator and it's making me kind of nervous that they could possibly get lost in transit!! eek

Where are you travelling from? We are also going to rent a car, I guess we work that out at the airport? We will need to do some errands (mens wearhouse p/u, booze, etc.) Just figured for the cost and convenience it's definitely worth it.

Yay, I feel like I finally have a wedding friend on here even though our dates are like a month apart!

Canadian Bride getting married at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas on October 19th, 2013
  • I know me too! ...a month is the closest I've found! lol We are flying from Oregon. Where are you having the ceremony? Our ceremony is at 7pm at Juno Garden, Caesar's. So I figured we'd have enough time to get some things set up and head to the ceremony. Actually I was planning to have the groom and groomsmen get ready there while his mom and her friends are decorating. I plan to be getting ready at Caesar's the whole day. So I don't know that might be a challenge. I'm totally reconsidering only getting one night now, but who knows there probably isn't another one avail now.

  • Our ceremony is @ Mandalay Bay also, at the Valley of the Falls location. It's a 3:00 pm ceremony followed by a two hour Double Decker Bus tour for some photos and then up to the Vista Suite for some eats and party!!

I think you will be good with that timeline, since you have a 7pm ceremony. You will probably get the suite before 3, maybe even early noon ish. I would probably try to check is as soon as possible that day just to be safe. I mean it's quite expensive to have another night if you can get away without it.

How are you getting your dress to Vegas?

Canadian Bride getting married at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas on October 19th, 2013
  • @Vegas Groom - do you know about the Media Suite?  We have heavy apps and approx. 30 people, do you think we will be ok without additional chairs/seating??

Generally the complaint about the media suite is that there's not a good area for dancing because the main room is broken up into the theater area and then the general area.  That being said, you'll come up just slightly short on the seating.  You'll have:

    2 chairs from the foyer
    A three seat couch
One lounge chair next to it
    A four seat table
Two or three high top bar chairs
Four lounge chairs from the theater
One or two lounge chairs from the bedroom

There will be two ottomans near the couch and two more in the theater.  So you may be fine as I'm sure there will always be people standing at any given time, but you'd really only have something to sit on for about 20 people at a time.  There are not a lot of surfaces in the media suite to put plates and glasses on; just the bar, table, couple end tables and the dresser thing in the foyer.

  • OMG I've so enjoyed reading this thread! I'm also getting married in October, have reserved the Vista Suite and am using Retro Bakery and Masterpiece Cuisine. :)

I'm nervous mostly about seating in the Vista as we'll have about 50 people (with heavy appetizers).

I read someone else's post that said they bought a bunch of ice, put it in the bathtub/shower, and kept the beer in there. Sounds good to me!

  • Hey Runner, sounds like exactly what I am doing! I'm getting married October 19th!
Canadian Bride getting married at Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas on October 19th, 2013
  • I had my reception in the Vista 8/30/12 and had 45-50 people in there with no problem. I also used Masterpiece for 6 heavy apps and chocolate covered strawberries (80). You will need the tables and chairs. I rented a 6-ft banquet table--dont forget to add the linens or you will just get an ugly table! You could even do 2 of these banquet tables. 2 hi-round tables (only needed one really) and 15 folding chairs. I also rented 2 of the tall beverage containers that are really pretty and hold ice for beer and water so the bartender doesn't have to be bothered with that. I could have done with only one. I rented a cooler from RSVP also and had them deliver and pick up everything. I had a bartender from Absolute and Retro for a small cake and 4 dozen cupcakes, I think. I also had DJ Godzilla in there. I used Woolard Productions for up-lighting and that was all the decor I really needed.

Don't worry. Everything will go great! It's a super fun way to have a reception. I wish I could do it all over again! Good luck!

  • @krisstyle12 - I just have to say that your review was so influencial in the planning of my wedding, I thank you sooo much! Not only were you super detailed, but you included how much you paid, which REALLY helped. I am defintely going to leave cost information on my reviews, too. When I booked with RSVP rentals, I pretty much just gave them the list of items your rented from your review...haha.

BTW, I was wondering where you found your discount codes for the vista suite. I have seen one or two on smartervegas.com, but I wasn't sure if you had any other specific sites you pulled them from.

Also...I recently requested you as a friend on facebook (I swear I'm not a stalker!) so that i could see your pics from your weddding. Turns out we both went to Chico State! lol.

@liljennygirl - I think I am just going to fly with my dress as a carry on. Seems like I've read reviews that said airlines were pretty understanding when you have a wedding dress, what about you?

  • Yes, I have decided to take my dress as carry-on as well. The option of shipping it down (to debi fit for a bride) worries me. I know others have paid for an extra seat on the flight but that seems rather costly. I have my fingers crossed that Alaska airlines won't have any issues!

And I totally agree, I have used Krisstyle's reviews for my whole planning process too. So detailed; and even some of the pics she added were great to get an idea.

    Happy Planning!!

  • Hi All. Thanks for the thread filled with great advice! Just a question, did anyone look at other suites besides Mandalay Bay?

I have a list of the ones most often mentioned on this forum at http://www.vegasgroom.com/In-Suite-CeremonyReception-(Part-1)_152.html

  • I personally decided on Mandalay Bay after online searching as I liked the look of the chapels and other wedding venues and they have many wedding packages to choose from for all different types of budgets. We also purposely chose it as it is at the far end of the strip and not right in the middle of the craziness, but close enough by tram to get to. We will be bringing our two small children and found this hotel to be more kid-friendly than most. You do not have to walk through a smoky casino to get to your room (apparently) and there are several things for kids to do in that area of the LV strip. For those reasons, it quickly became the one.

I had also liked the look and price of some Planet Hollywood suites and got some quotes. But in the end didn`t feel it was as appropriate. Mandalay Bay is giving me a classy feel, with a beach atmosphere, the other hotels give me a more Vegas feel, city atmosphere...if that makes sense. I haven`t been there or anything though lol.

  • @liljennygirl - what are the kid activities that you speak of? We have a 2 year old and I am a little worried about the same things. I was just hoping he'd be occupied spending his days at the pool... :)

You can get from valet to room and room to pool without having to pass through the casino, fortunately.  Unfortunately to get to any of the restaurants, self parking, shows, the shoppes (mall) which lead to Luxor and Excalibur, etc. you're going to be stuck going through the casino.

THEHotel, being on the back side, is a little bit better.  Due to the parking garage being on that side, there is an entrance from it to THEHotel as well as to the shops/restaurants area which also leads to the convention center.  There is a way to get to the pool going that direction but it's a LONG walk.  You can cross 20 feet from THEHotel door to restaurant area door via the parking garage to avoid the casino.

Other than the pool, I'm not aware of any kid-specific activities at Mandalay.  Exaclibur is probably the most kid friendly resort.

  • Well I have heard that the pools there are fantastic for kids, they have a lot of variety and it's not like scantily clad ladies and drunk people everywhere. They have the Shark Reef aquarium which I think my kids will enjoy. I have heard the surrounding hotels also are more kid-friendly. MGM, and the Excalibur.

  • Urban & LilJenny, You ladies are so sweet! I am an OCD/nerd/planner and had the hardest time making decisions for my wedding due to the lack of detailed information. I need the prices of things--I don't care if it's tacky to mention it! LOL I was going to revise my planning bio with more reviews, but I forgot which email and password I used. :/

Urban, I made my reception album private, but I will unblock it for you to see. Funny that we both went to Chico State! I was wondering how I knew you, but added you anyway. LOL

I took my kids to Vegas (ages 13, 5 and 2) and let me tell you the little ones are STILL talking about it almost a year later! Even the 2 year old. They loved the pool and there is so much going on that they will be mesmerized. My little guy was so cute. He had a rolling backpack with snacks, diapers and toys and he rolled that little thing all over Vegas. Everyone commented on how cute he was everywhere he went. They loved the pools at MB. In the end, I decided on MB due to price. I couldn't get enough info on how to book at PH, I had the wraparound at Cosmo booked but I was afraid it wouldn't fit all my guests and with little kids, I was afraid of the terrace.

I used smartervegas for promo codes, but I checked the MB site ALL THE TIME and anytime I found a better deal I would call and book the room at the lower price. I probably called and changed it 10-12 times! Just ask. The worst they can tell you is NO and then you just ask again later. A closed mouth doesn't get fed!

  • Hey Everyone, great read and info. We are having our in room reception in the vista suite and was planning on bringing in outside catering(Jason's deli) and some alcohol we are purchasing... But are being told there is no way that its allowed, and if. Alcohol is found in the suite we will be charged either a 25% corking fee or Mandalay bay prices plus 20% gratuity. How have all of you gotten around this? We are on a budget saving for a house, so don't have the money to pay their prices for any of it. Thanks, Jamie

From scouring the boards here about vista suite (i'm planning on doing the same exact thing), i haven't found 1 person who had a problem with liquor.  The only thing that i came across from a while back was people getting the knock on the door about a noise complaint.
