XP MOH duties

I keep seeing that some people are having 2 MOH's. What in your mind does a MOH do and how does it differ from a BM?

In my social circle a MOH signs the marriage license as a witness. Sometimes thows the bach party/shower but the anyone else can plan those parties. I threw a Bacholorette party for my Little Sorority sister and wasn't in the wedding.

~ETA XP to Mom & Maids. I really do wonder what people do.

MOH is simply a position of honor. There are no duties.

She traditionally stands nearest the bride at the altar and for pictures, but that's pretty much it.

  • So then who would sign the marriage license as a witness?

  • There's no additional requirements, but in most of the weddings I've gone to, the MOH has taken the lead in organizing the shower or bachelorette party. Though I planned the bachelorette party for my friend because the MOH was not local.

  • Not all states require a witness to sign the license.

  • I have a MOH and a BM. I have given different titles because my MOH is my best friend in the whole world, and I wanted to honor that. If I had to BMs then I'd either pick one to sign the license, or have someone different. The witness doesn't have to be in the BP. I went to a wedding where the B and G were close friends with an older couple who didn't want to be in the WP, but the B and G still wanted to acknowledge their love and support, so they asked the couple to be their witnesses.

  • In most states, the only requirement to sign the marriage license is being over 18.

Some don't require witnesses, and some allow anyone to witness.

Typically the MOH and Best Man sign, as it's usually the easiest thing to do. In some families, it's traditional to have the mothers of the bride and groom sign.

I answered over in the other thread, but just in case you miss it, anyone can sign it.

It's become a tradition to have the MOH and the BM to sign the license, but really anyone can.
If you don't want to choose between the two girls you can have maybe your moms sign or something.

  • It's just a way to honor someone, they have no "duties" besides buying their dress and showing up sober.  Traditionally the MOH stands closest to the bride during the ceremony, holds her bouquet during the exchanging of rings, and might fix her train once or twice during the ceremony.  I'm having two MOHs, my sister and my friend that got FI and I together, with my sister standing closer b/c the title is infinitely more important to my sis.
