Has anyone heard of Apollo Wedding Dresses.com? Thoughts on purchasing a dress online?

Hi - I'm new to the board, so be gentle. 

I understand there are tons of brides out there that will probably jump all over this topic, but I really love a dress I tried on in a store. I just can't bare to pay $900 for it (before alterations). 

I've been searching the web for alternative ideas and I see there are several sites where dress makers from China will make a replica. I KNOW the quality won't be up to the same standards, but if it's decent and saves me over $600 - I'm willing to try the concept out. 

I'm just curious if anyone can confirm if they've heard of this site and/or other sites, what their experience was like, etc to help out this bride on a budget out :)

    It has a lot more to do with "not up to quality." Some brides don't get a dress in at all.  Some get a really crappy quality dress that will not fit you or anyone you know.  Even if you do get it in, you make end up spending the extra $600 just for alterations.  Save yourself the headache.  Check out tradesy or preownedweddingdresses.com.

    Just don't do it. Lurk on attire and hear stories. I didn't and we ordered the BM dresses from one and they were terrible and then I had to fight for months to get any part of a refund. I would have been heartbroken if it were my dress. I ate the loss. Don't do it. Look for trunk sales or see if you can buy the sample.

    Another note. If your user name is your full name ask the knot to change it. There can be Scary ppl are on the Internet.

    I just wanted to add, as a seamstress, it would be almost impossible to buy the materials for a $900 dress for $300.  That's part of why it is such poor quality.

    Yeah, never ever buy a knockoff. It's so not worth the risk.

    Look at the preowned dress sites Miss Hart recommended, or see if you can find a custom seamstress (either local to you or there are some good ones on Etsy) that can meet your budget.

    What's the dress? We might be able to help you find something very similar that wont break your budget.

    This is gutsy. If you do choose to buy a knock off online, be pretend with a backup plan in case the dress isn't wearable.

    I know what you're saying, but the dress I'm looking at doesn't have "tons" of fabric like the average wedding dresses.

    Nice lace, silk, satin, and organza is not cheap per yard. And wedding dresses have tons of lining and interfacing going on. There's a ton of construction that goes into well-made gowns.

    THAT is a good deal. But sadly I'll need a size 10 :/ I'm a little concerned of the damage mentioned (but of course that's why its so cheap!) Hmmm. I'm sure I sound picky - but i'm a little on the fence about getting a dress that has been worn down the aisle. Maybe I'm a little superstitious.

    Several dresses haven't been worn.  Sometimes brides just change their minds and want a different dress.

    Honestly, if it's not damaged, what difference does it make? Either you pay for a new one, or you get something a little pre-loved that you can afford, KWIM?

    Sorry but that's funny you are worried about the damage when buying a real dress. But in your OP you are willing to risk it for a dress that could come sew with blue thread, not your size, too short, too wide, unfixable, or even come in pieces. Also I would try on the real size/dress before assuming you are a dress 10. I've seen some advertized as like dress size 4 street size 4 where I know for a fact that designer's size 4 is closer to a 0.

    I custom ordered mine from an online site but,  from reading the responses every time this question gets asked, it has become more and more apparent that I may be the only bride in the history of the knot to get exactly what she wanted/expected, absolutely love the dress, have it fit perfectly, arrive ahead of schedule in less than three weeks, and have zero problems at all.

    You can also try preownedweddingdresses.com. I sold a brand new 1200 gown there for 700... The used gowns are discounted even more. It's a very reputable site.

    My best friend in high school ordered her prom dress from a site like this and never received it, was given the run-around by their "customer service" representatives for a few days, and was LUCKY to get her money back. This is not a good idea.

    Or at least get measured. I'm a street size 0 and when the salon measured me, I was in between a 4 and 6 per the designers measurements.

    Think about how many men get married in rented clothes - do you think that's bad luck? 

    I tried on dresses at DB and they (of course) brought me dresses that were outside of my price range.  The one that I loved was above my budget, and I left the store without buying anything.  I ended up buying the dress I wanted from a woman I found on Recycled Bride (now Tradesy) for half the price.  I would absolutely rather buy a secondhand dress over a knockoff any day.

    I've seen dresses at David's Bridal for much less.

    Unless they have a brick and mortar store here in the United States, don't go that way.  I have read too many horror stories how people have gotten bargains for Chinese made dresses and they regretted it.

    huynhette ashleyepWonderRed I was hoping I would find a sole out there that had a story like this. I've read mixed reviews online (except on the knot) and thought to myself that some of the reviews might be designers trying to steer away customers from the competition. Where did you buy?
