Weird Thank You Note Situation - please help :)

We were married last November and had just a few guests (approximately 5) attend our wedding who did not give us a gift.  We searched etiquette boards extensively and decided to send thank you notes to everyone, including those guests, with their note expressing our gratitude for their attendance on our special day.  Just recently, we received gifts from two of those guests.  Should we be sending them a second thank you note now, or is that just weird?  Should we instead orally thank them for the gifts?  Thanks!

    Send them the second thank you note for the gifts.  Not only is it polite, but it lets them know that you did actually receive the gift if it wasn't handed to you directly by them

    ...and just in case others stumble upon this with similar questions...you shouldn't have sent them a thank you note in the first place.  It's awkward and sort of points out, "hey, you didn't give us a gift so I can only thank you for attending."

    Thanks for all your help.  We will send a second note. 

    Initially, we researched intently and found a complete split of thought on the matter of whether to send a thank you note for attending - very much half saying it may be awkward to send one and the other half saying it may be rude not to.  I don't think there is a clear cut answer on that, and if there is, I didn't find one.

    Since you presumably thanked them for their presence with a proper reception, the first thank you note was a little on the odd side and does pretty much point out the lack of gift.  As that ship has sailed, yes, you should send a thank you for the wedding gift you received.
