October 2013 Weddings

Status update?

Hey October brides!

What do you have left to do?

I've got everything done but the maid of honor dresses.  I'm having a double wedding with my cousin, so we are each having one maid of honor.  My aunt is making their dresses for us.  I hate to keep bugging her about them, but the wedding is just over a month away and our girls need clothes!  =)

Re: Status update?

  • I'm down to 15 items on my TK checklist, and all of them are week-of or day-of things, so I'm feeling pretty good!

Our RSVP deadline is next Wednesday, and we're only missing 17 RSVPs, which I think is pretty good.

We mailed out 77 invites, so we have 60 back. So far, it's a 49% decline rate, which is about what we expected. We invited 152 people, and it looks like our final count will be less than 110 -- maybe less than 100!

I'm gonna go with 'not my circus, not my monkeys.'
  • We were sooo far behind until last night. We had unexpected bills pop up and suddenly we were behind in our pay plan to all of our vendors.

My wedding is on the 19th, so i was really stressed out. But last night we were surprised with a small loan from a family member to help us catch up and pretty much pay off our remaining amounts to our vendors.

We are also waiting on RSVP's . Our deadline is the 1st. so we're hoping they start coming in a little faster now that its getting closer.
  • I think we're down to around ten things left to do! Just the details like picking up the marriage license, picking up FIs ring once it's in, making final payments, finalizing the seating chart, day of timeline, etc.

Another curveball came to us the other day when our venue let us know that they only supply champagne glasses, not actual drinking glasses. So now finding drinking glasses has been added to the to-do list!

I'm picking up one of the BMs dresses tomorrow, my bridal luncheon is Saturday, FI is getting his vest fitted on Monday, and then I have an appointment to have my hair dyed next Friday.

That was nice of your family member to loan you money to catch you up on vendor payments! I'm sure that helped relieve a lot of your stress!

We had a similar situation recently, although kind of opposite. My parents ran into some financial troubles due to a mega screw up by my stepdad. They couldn't afford their rent payment, and if it was more than five days late, they'd get evicted. Luckily, we had cash on hand for vendor payments that we were able to loan to them for their rent. I was stressed to the max the two weeks that it took for them to get us the money back, but I'm glad they did and that we were able to help keep them from getting evicted!
  • 1. Arrange to have our stuff picked up at the venue the day after the wedding.
    2. Book transportation for exit after the ceremony and to the hotel after the reception.
    3. Have hair and makeup trial
4.Work on timeline and send to vendors/bridal party
    5. Finish up my fittings.
6.Give final head count to venue.
    7. Shop and pack for the honeymoon.
    8. Make final payments.
    9. Designate someone to check in for us and put our overnight bag in our hotel room.
    10. Give honeymoon itinerary to our parents in case of emergency.
    11. Print parent and grandparent pictures for our cake table.
    12. Give shot list/names of VIPs to photographer.
    13. Work on toast.
    14. Buy stuff for welcome bags and put together.
    15. Have table runners and FH and FSS's suits pressed.
    16. Get contacts for myself for the wedding and honeymoon.
    17. Purchase chords for the hand-fasting portion of our ceremony.
  • Too much left to do:

    • Finish centerpieces
    • Pick readings/music for ceremony
    • Final payments for everyone
    • Send rehearsal dinner invitations
    • Final fittings
    • Hair and makeup trials
    • Make programs
    • Seating chart/ escort cards (when the remaining 66 people reply)
    • Find shoes/jewelry
    • Cake stand
    • Marriage license

Perhaps I wouldn't be so far behind if we weren't still moving into our house, painting, etc.  I keep telling myself, "It'll all get done, it'll all get done"...

  • We have a fair amount left to do. Some that sticks out in my mind is:

    • Finalize wording for ceremony programs and send to designer
    • Final stuff with reception venue - have a meeting and go through it all
    • Cigars for end of night (FI's taking care of this)
    • Seating chart name cards. The chart is basically done, need FMIL to review, but it's on its way to being finished
    • Drop off bouquet charms to florist for my bouquet (and pay her final payment while I'm there)
    • Write lots of checks to vendors
    • Talk to coordinator about set up and drop off lots of decorations to her
And that's about it - some other little decor things need to be finalized, but it's pretty well under control.

I think I'm going to focus on what I have done in the past week :)
    1. Applied for the marriage license - WOO HOO!
    2. Ate at the rehearsal dinner site - SUPER TASTY
    3. Signed our final banquet sales order with our venue - we found out that my niece and nephews are only going to be $20 - along with the vendors - which I was surprised by (I should have asked originally I guess - but we just assumed they'd be the same price since it is a buffet) AND they are giving us a FREE DESSERT table due to a scheduling snafu when we booked the place!
    4. Scheduled manicure/pedicure appointments for my wedding party on the Friday before and some of my high school friends will be joining us which is a pleasant surprise!
    5. Booked our first week of travel/accommodations for our honeymoon!
    6. Bought a case of my favorite red wine for the rehearsal dinner - as its BYO.
    7. FI ordered groomsmen gifts and they arrived
    8. Had my second fitting - success :)
    9. Sent thank you notes for gifts already received
    10. Booked tee times for the guys on Saturday
    11. Contacted my guests letting them know the room block closes on Wednesday!
    12. Put out fires for my bridal shower and other family issues.

    Still left to do -
    • Finalize decor (I'm playing with pumpkins this weekend)
    • Finalize schedule and distribute
    • Determine if/what transportation we will have for the wedding party (I'm still torn on this expense)
    • Finalize music for the ceremony/reception
    • Get my hair done (October 12)
    • Finish bridesmaids gift and wrap!
    • Find a place for Abby to sleep on Saturday night - one of my BM wants her to stay with her - but I think that is too much.

    • I have a few final payments left
    • Pick up programs
    • Put together reception decor ( I'm making picture collages)
    • Put pictures in frame for reception
    • Put together bridesmaid gifts (and probably groomsmen and saber arch gifts too, since my fiance probably won't :P )
    • Apply for marriage license - my fiance is active duty military and so he hasn't came back home yet
    • Shot list for photographer - almost done
    • DJ play and do not play list - almost done

I think we are in good shape. I tried to get as much done as earlier as possible because we bought a house in North Carolina a few weeks ago ( neither of us live there yet ) and are closing next week (so he is traveling there for closing) and then moving to our new home the day after the wedding. A lot going on, but it'll all be worth it!

  • -Finish centerpieces (just need more of the black wooden flowers we're putting in them)

-Make table name signs & attach to wine bottle centerpieces

-Print off a few more programs

-Do up the seating chart in good (for the display at the wedding)

    -Write our speech

-Get 2 Barbie figures and 2 Batman figures for our 'shoe game' (our shoes look too similar, we're both wearing sneakers of the same colours, the colours are just reversed on each)

-Pick up the gifts for our jr bridesmaids & jr groomsman

-Do a little blurb for each of the bridesmaids and groomsmen for our 'Meet the Maids/Meet the Men' board which will be on the guest book table

-Confirm with all of our vendors/have our last meetings with them

    -Last dress fitting (tonight!)

I think that's it! ahhhhh less than 2 weeks!

  • Yeah, I started reading through everyone's progress... but it's just giving me anxiety. No more lists for me, going to just fly by the seat of my pants haha.
