NER: Another RSVP question.

Those who are married already. Did you have any people RSVP and not come or some not RSVP but still show up? If so, how many? Just curious to see others experiences.

Re: NER: Another RSVP question.

  • We did have some people who RSVP'd yes but did not show up.

For those that did not RSVP, we followed up by phone to ask if they would be able to attend.  If you need to give a headcount to any vendors, you really need to follow up with non-responders.

Just curious, how many that RSVP'd didn't show up in your case? We just have to have a number for food purposes. We'll call those that don't RSVP.

  • We did not have anyone show up who didn't RSVP.  Of the 160 guests we'd paid for at the reception, 10 didn't show to the reception...and not a single one has given us an explanation.
  • We had a good handful of people RSVP yes and then not show, but there was a violent flu going around...Nobody didn't RSVP and then showed up though.

I am hoping flu season holds off until after November 2nd. We haven't had any reported cases in our area yet. That stinks that people got sick and weren't able to come!

If someone RSVPs yes, count on them attending. It's better to pay for someone who doesn't show up than NOT pay for someone who told you they were attending. That said, I think we had 127 who RSVP'd yes (this includes some plus ones that were requested/written in) and about 110 attended. Some of those were requested plus-ones that did not end up being brought, one was due to a guest breaking up with a SO, and the rest were friends or family who just plain forgot or something.

  • We had a few RSVP and not show up.  One friend's car died the day before the wedding and she didn't have a way to get there.  Some of my husband's coworkers ended up having to deal with some work things and couldn't make it either.  We had our wedding on a military base so if you were a civilian you had to RSVP so that your name was on the list at the gate.

  • Out wedding is February 1st so I'm very worried about people being sick and not being able to attend. I got my flu shot this week so hopefully at least I won't be sick. Good luck hopefully you will beat the flu season!
  • We only had one person not show up who had been a "yes" - one of DH's friends broke up with his girlfriend two days before our wedding (which we didn't know about until the reception - the poor guy had found out she was cheating on him).

I know that lots of brides on here talk about multiple guests not showing up, but I've rarely seen that happen at the weddings I've attended. For example, one of my friends got married last year and, out of the 250+ guests expected for her wedding, only 1 was a no show. Maybe my circle has just always been really lucky with these things.

Yeah, I think it's completely different for each couple. That's why I don't think anyone should assume any amount of no-shows.

  • We had two no shows for our Nov 3rd wedding last year. They were traveling from Canada to RI and after the hurricane hit they cancelled. Totally understandable.
  • I can't see the responses because of The Knot's fashion show advertisement. Is there anyway to remove it?

  • I had seven guests RSVP that they were coming and they did not.  (Five actual invited guests that didn't show up, and two who were invited and begged me to let them bring a date, only for them to arrive solo.)  It worked out though, because five extra guests who weren't invited or had RSVP'd no ended up coming.
  • We had five no shows. I would never anticipate that ahead of time, though.
  • I'm going to count all that RSVP'd. Thanks for sharing your experiences everyone!
